I don't think it does TBH as the water temp is about the same as the oil temp, so I can't see much cooling going on, hence me fancying a proper oil cooler.

The PlusGas arrived (says it only takes a few minutes to work, no overnight soaking required!), as did the Sealey 2-ton low entry super rocket lift jack. Decided to get my act together and do things properly, I'm not a fan of wooden blocks etc. and this jack slips right under my car no problem, so things can get a move on now, only the 4 downpipe bolts and oil return pipe to remove and the turbo is off!

id expect with an oil cooled turbo, you take the heat from the turbo, put it though the stock oil cooler and exchange it into the water, using your radiator to get rid.

without the oil cooling the turbo, you would get a lot of convected heat going into the manifold/block (oil and water pathways would then heat up i presume) leading to a higher oil temp.

Thats the stuff Rob
Did you buy axle stands aswell or do you already have them?
Better working off wooden blocks than trusting the jack seals to hold up
Axle stands are cheap as

OK I got the turbo off the car tonight, not a major job just a real pain, it could all be done from the top if the manifold bolts weren't such a nightmare to get at, whoever designed the ATP manifold needs shot - can't get any form of spanner into the top middle 3 nuts to undo them!!!!!!!! PlusGas did a great job as not one single nut or bolt was stuck at all.

Sending the turbo off to CR Turbos tomorrow so we'll see what they say, definate signs of damage to the blades and also touching the sides. Looks like a bit of debris may have been ingested.

More worryingly is the fact I found 2 holes in the housing behind where the oil return hose bolts fit, don't know if they lead into the bearings or just behind the bolts?

New trolley jack is awesome! Mind you, it still only JUST gets under my car!

Just have to wait now until CR Turbos do their stuff and I get it back to refit.

I think the holes are just casting holes

glad you got it off though... they're one of those things that either come off easily, or not at all!

Well done Rob, Removing the turbo is much harder than refitting it. :)
I'm loving your trolley jack, where on the leon are you jacking it up..... can you reach the subframe before it starts hitting the cills or splitter etc.

Yeah wasn't too bad, I was going to take the turbo off with the manifold, but I can't get 3 of the nuts off on the top, can't get a spanner in, all the others came off easily.

I've seen some guys heat up and bend spanners into weird shapes to get at nuts like these.
