Hi guys,
So I went on a rolling road today as I thought it may be useful to diagnose the issue I've been having with the fault code issue (P0328 - G61 Signal Too High). Follow on from this thread: http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=396213

Anyway. I asked for the air/fuel ratio to be looked at and he said that's it's running VERY lean. The power output was good (perhaps a tad low?) - 189 at the wheels so approx 217bhp at the flywheel.. which is 4bhp down from what the book says? 221bhp?

The following performance mods are installed:
Cobra Sport Cat Back Exhaust
K&N Panel Filter.

Now I found a list of things to check:
Running Lean – VAC Leak, MAF, O2 Sensor, Fuel Filter

but are there any issues that are most likely going to be the issue? I know K&N filters can be bad for the MAF due to being oiled up... is this the same case for panel filter and potentially a cause of running lean?

It will most likely be a split pipe in the PCV system or the valve under the inlet manifold in the PVC pipe where it changes diameter has broken , or broken dipstick tube . Any ingress of air into the system which operates the crank case in a state of partial vacuum results in a weak mixture.
 
Thanks Wilderides, you always give a detailed response. I'm going to do some logging first that will hopefully narrow things down for me.

How would I go about checking a broken dipstick tube? would it be visibly obvious? The dip stick sits in the holder fine, but are you saying any cracks / damage at all could cause a problem?

Yeah .......... it cracks and falls to bits .......... usually breaks off and wobbles about loose . The valve in the pvc under inlet mani is hard to detect but it is inside the pipe and basically it wears out and sticks perminant open or shut . You can check for this by clamping the pvc pipe after the valve with mole grips to shut off the pipe and see if symptoms go or stay.

I used to get a trade mechanics mag with a help column for other techs and 1.8t weak mix was in there practically every week . There are so many pipes to check on the pcv etc and a leak on any can do it !

Well unfortunately the software I have will only log from 001 to 025, not sure if logging those are any good?

I'm going to spray all the pipes below plus the dip stick with electrical cleaner tomorrow, so I'll post up how I'm getting on tomorrow.

If it is running lean, scanning it with vagcom (just error code scanning) will say it runs lean. This is usually from "false" air being drawn. The most common culprit is the PCV system, check all (!!!) pipes from the PCV system, also check the Jet Suction Pump, this one is known to fail (read: leak) as well.

Does anyone know if the diagram above shows all the areas of the PCV system I need to check? I sprayed what I could see tonight in the dark with some electrical cleaner but didn't hear any change in RPM... but I may need to have a second go when I can see what I'm doing.

I've also tried to capture what I can with the VAG-COM but not sure if it's anything useful as it's only the limited version. I may have to pay up $100 for the registered version..

This was a second gear pull, from 2500 -> Redline.

Seems to cover some good issues.. and tells you what blocks to measure :). So I'm sure I'll be back with "What do all these numbers mean!?" soon.... think I'll do it tomorrow night.

Brilliant, getting mine mapped at the end of the month so want to solve as many of these issues as possible, Typically the bloody emmsions light has come on this week.
Garage that fitted the clutch today looked and said it was something to do with the Turbo inlet so going to examine the TIP Sat but this little guide will help no end.

Got new MAF and coilpacks already just need to get a smoke test done to find any leaks

Does anyone think the MAF reading looks too high at around 6500rpm? There are two readings shown in the excel doc... one is 171g/s and the other is 177g/s. In the document I linked to before it said it should be 170g/s on a CHIPPED car? Only performance mods on this are cat back exhaust and panel filter.....?
 
replace the valve labelled 5 in the parts diagram a few posts back ....... it wears out and leaks vacuum when it should not
 
So I've had a look... and the valve appears to be blanked off!?.. I also found a slight pipe with a kink on it? (it's not on the diagram above) anything significant? Don't mind the wet patches, it's where I had been spraying electrical cleaner.
