Hello All,

Couldn't find a better website to ask this question but hopefully I'll be able to find the answer

Basically I own a 2004 VW POLO and recently the front lower rear wishbone bushes have gone....again

Anyways I have decided to go with replacing them with cupra R bushes but to save labour charges  the mechanic has adviced me to get the whole 'housing' instead dont remember what its called but something like front lower control arm ?!?!?!

I know that the CupraR wishbone bushes do fit the Polo but instead looking for this whole 'housing' with the wishbone on it! So could somebody either send me their chassis number or even a part number please.

Sorry very difficult to explain as I cant post URL's too so hopefully somebody will understand what I mean

Thanks

Consoles is the term for the full lot.

Why not just swap the bushes though?

Six speed console is different on the n/s, not sure if it will fit in a five speed subframe.

Yes thats it front lower arm console think :)

I dont mind buying the bushes itself, just that my mechanic is not too keep on
removing them as its a night mare and would cost me more on labour!

If you say the six speed one is different then might have to resort to s***y polo ones?!?!

The Cupra bushes are a piece of cake to fit as they are metal cased not plastic. Cut the old bushes out, clean them up with a flap wheel and put the new bushes in a vice.

£8 x2 vs £70 x2

£70 x2 :( Oops! That is expensive.

I am not an expert in mechanical stuff but the mechanic is charging me £50 for just replacing two of them......i.e the whole consoles itself.....But would you reckon it is something I could do on my driveway I mean is it complicated.....have all the tool though.

I think i have seen tutorials somewhere, my only concern is how to press the bushes in

Cheers

£50 is pretty cheap for changing consoles.

Its not much more work to swap the bushes once the consoles are out.

Yeh but want to get something in which is much stronger than something that would only last months  like the VW ones.

Would you have any links to tutorials as I might just try it myself???

techie also lastly will it be possible to get the part numbers for the console anyhow??

Cheers

Yes, but as Techie has said already, if you just go down the route of buying new consoles, you would need to buy one Ibiza Cupra console for one side and one Fabia or Polo or Ibiza nonCupra for the other side plus one Ibiza Cupra bush - then change the bush for the Cupra bush - then replace both consoles. There were lots of stories concerning damaging - ie cracking the consoles when being rough fitting these Cupra bushes, but it seems with a bit of care its feasable to do. Me - I just bottled it and got a proper VAG indie to do this and re-align the car's suspension - as I'd reckon that you will end up having to get this re-alignment done soon after getting these bushes replaced, either the steering wheel will end up being off-centre or more likely the car will not feel as "sharp" as it could do - and later you will find that your front tyres have been stuffed with the suspection not being accurately enough set up after this repair. I costed up buying two new Polo consoles and two Cupra bushes + getting a Seat dealer to swop the bushes in the new consoles + getting the car re-aligned - with me just swopping the consoles over, but it made no sense moneywise so I just got a proper VAG indie to do all the work. If your friendly mechanic feels that he would rather not replace these bushes (maybe for the reasons that I have given), then mayeb its time to cut loose and find out where your nearest proper VAG indie garage is.

The n/s console has a small section cut out of it on the six speed consoles to clear the diff, I am 99% sure you could fit a six speed console into a five speed subframe, the fact its missing a bit of metal over the five speed wouldn't matter.

Cheers both RUM4MO and techie has been very patient with my questions even though it has been asked many times

I will be going to TPS tomorrow anyways to get my parts so as per RUM4HO the consoles dont come with bushes in them then?!?!?! I mean I would need to buy the Bushes seperately + Console seperately (or just use the ones).......hmmm i use to think they
use to come as one whole part. Then I dont know why I was stressing about cupra consoles...lol

Meanwhile will it be possible to get a mk4 ibiza cupra chassis number anyhow so that
then I could use it for reference please!

Thanks
