Hi all

Can anyone tell me if its a common problem that the jacking point covers fall off. I had a tire replaced a couple of weeks ago, when i went back to my car everything was in place, so i drove home. When i got home i noticed the cover was missing. I rang the tire garage and they said take the other one off and look for a part number and they will replace it, so i did, i replaced the one i took off and guess what, yes after another drive that had to fallen off.

Is there a trick to putting them on or is it a common fault?

Also i know diesels smoke a lot but mine is doing it two much for my liking, is this just me worrying or is there more to it?

Anyhelp would be great

Regards

same thing here man... lost both of them... 14EUR for cover and 10EUR for paintjob and some nerves lost whenever I look at my beautiful car without them ;-)
you can secure them with duct tape from beneath (or you can use reinforced pipe seal tape as I did)...

I couldnt get mine off the other day... how do you get them off? i pulled down, pushed, pulled towards me etc..didnt work.

I ended up just jacking it up without removing as the cover is JUST in front of the actual jacking point so it didnt cause any issues and didnt need to be removed.

Yep common fault. They fall off when you start pushing the car. If you look at the covers some clips may already be broken before you put it on, they often are as my dealer struggled to find good ones in their stores. I added silicon to mine and now they don't budge.

I dont have a kit on mine so dont have a problem. They come with a fastening strap I think. So like the guys say stick them on or replace as required or alternatively take a look at one when you manage to get one off and see if you can secure it with a tie wrap or something around the inner side and you may need to drill small holes for the tie wraps.Should come off though by pulling outwards or downwards or a combination of the two.
I would look at trying to secure all of them with small tie wraps by drilling a hole in the underside of the car and fixing the flap obscurely to it.
GOOD IDEA METHINKS.I OUGHT TO PATENT IT.

The trick to putting them back on is to feed the holding strap back into its groove as it is meant to hold the cover in place dangling down while you replace a wheel.
My mate has a cupra mk2 and I helped change a wheel for his wife.Thats how I know so much about it.
