Hi All

I have had a weird smell from m y air con for the last few weeks. I have now noticed it only smells, like wet dogs!, if i have the air con on and i use the window jets, this will normally smell for a while and then go, doesnt do it if its raining, just when i use the windows washers, anyone come across this before or can anyone suggest a suitable fix?

Thanks

Ian

so it only happens when you use the washers.. Then i suggest its the washer mix not the aircon. (although air con can smell and if it does this need to be sorted).

Didnt buy the washer stuff from Tescos did you?

There was a thread some time ago about Tescos stuff stinking.

No the stuff i bought was from Sainsburys. I have our lass buying a different brand now to see if that will make any difference. It doesnt smell when the air con is not on though

open ya washer bottle and see if it's the same smell :):) old water sat in big bottles nowadays goes stagnant and reeeeks

add in dodgy screenwash doesn't help either and no end of crap and cures will get rid of it, just ask the guy who recently bought a new bottle off em for his after trying caustic soda :) lol - tank warped/melted and still smelt bad

drain ya tank completely and flush it through as best of possible and use something perfumated like the renault stuff, there's a thread around with a few alternatives listed mind

i have one customer that buys 5L of distilled water every month as he swears that helps too but not tested the theory myself

but it equally doesnt smell when the air con is on but you have not used your windscreen washers?

yeah, its only smells when the air con is on and the washers have just been used, its a weird smell, the same washer fluid is in our lasses ar and it doesnt smell, hers is a renault tho

Could it be that the washer fluid is somehow getting some manner of filter wet and thats whats causing the smell? i did a search and read about a pollen filter, coudl it be this? is it worth changing the car is MY04 and i thinkn its the original one in

Are there any instructions on chaning this on here?

Thanks for the replys

only use decent screen wash. i.e. shell. flush your tank with hot water and concentrated wash and pump it for a good while. happened on my vectra some time ago.

i nearly commented on the pollen filter, may have got wet, or gets wets from the screen wash. These often get fitted poorly during services.
However i didnt comment on this as if it was the pollen filter i dont see why the aircon being on or off would make a difference?

has the car been serviced recently?

there was a similar thread with tesco washer fluid being the culprit and they managed to get a refund from tesco for it.
have a search and read through, it also suggested how they cleane dteh pipes through to remove the smell

:redface:ye ye - read it all first :p

regular dual carraigeway into work and every 2wat and rep ever born seems to think it's worth losing a rear bumper and getting knocked out for the sake of 10 ft at the next 3 sets of lights and i hate being cut up when i'm half asleep.

growing old now too so can't be bothered so usually i just stay in lane and wait behind the lorries hoping the silver merc/bmw wassocks don't cut up too sharp and cause yet another rear ender again this week :censored:

but i'm a mature middle aged adult, father of three teens who doesn't lower himself to the level of such idiocy and egotistical impatient risk taking.

I had him 2 days later so bad it was a tease really and my mrs gave him a parking ticket to boot yesterday :lol:

anyway - back to the screenwash - any suggestions for colouring - i guess food colouring really ?

My car has not been serviced since April, and its due again in March, woudl it be worth emptying the tank of fluid, flushing it out and replacing the pollen filter? i assume i can get a pollen filter online somewhere rather than paying through the nose at SEAT?

I go to volkswagen for my screenwash its only 3 quid for a bottle and it smells good too!! give the bottle a clean out and use that. Never use cheap shite from places like tesco of sainsburys. my tank was all messed up coz the previous owner of my car never used screenwash he just filled it with water only and it was minging inside!!! also it blocks your jets up too!!
