I am an old-school realist not an analyst - I try things out for myself and if they work in the real world and give results, that'll do for me ... I don't sit at my keyboard over-analysing something for days on end. Sorry if that's harsh but that's me, if you want to know exactly how it works - ask the people that design it. :)

It can only do one thing and that's intercept the throttle position signal and alter it. It can't do anything complex because it has no control over the ecu except to trick it into thinking the throttle is in a different position.

This isn't a bad thing. What people need to realise is dbw is different, it doesn't work like a cable i.e 10% on the pedal = 10% throttle, 50% pedal = 50% throttle etc. The ecu takes your pedal input and works out how much power it thinks the driver wants i.e it's not linear like a physical cable.

You could achieve the same effect by changing the code in the ecu and I'm sure remapped cars are more responsive than stock ones that are designed to be smoother.

Some new cars (Astra?) even have a button on the dash to sharpen up response.

EDIT It says what it does on the site
by continuously measuring and converting the digital signal providing the ECM (Electronic Control Module) with a new and altered signal.
The 'signal providing the ECM' is the accelerator pot

hopeing the designs fully tested in fail safe mode as bosch had to do on initial design.

some performance codes are more responsive than others already...

0-100% throttle pedal is as previously said not 0-100% throttle, ecu decides when its most appropriate to open the throttle..

interesting gizmo tho

This is what I was thinking, I expect those little doohickeys are tuned to work with standard code. My Revo code feels soft at low load/revs but sharpens up considerably when the revs increase.

I'd like to try one though.

Was at Star today to get suspected clutch/brake fluid leak checked and there are no obvious issues, WHEW!!

Any hoo, Jim said I'm away to fit something to your car, I'm not telling you what it is but drive it and see what you think.
Anyway five minutes later Brian had the car waiting out side running for me. As soon as I pulled off there was instantly a difference in throttle response (or thats what I took it that it was) and spun the wheels a bit in first and second.
Feeling that this was different I took it slowly for a start then hammered it.
There was definately a big difference in how quickly the car climbed through the revs from low down all the way to the red line.
Also noticed the car aloud me to accelerate harder when cornering ( which it didn't do before). This seems to have reduced what I took to be turbo lag higher up in the revs also.
For the price to effectiveness ratio i would say its is very good.
The only point is that you have to be a bit more careful about how you boot your car a it does accelerate harder and faster than your used to, but much more fun.
There will be sceptics out there who 'over annalize' this, and try to work out what it does (which is understandable) but I can say I'm very happy.
I was given the opperunity for it to be removed but was happy for it to stay fitted and pay £165 + vat for it.
Top marks to Jim at Star again, top job!!
