aaaah i didnt know bmw did the clamps that go over the inlet of the charger, do they do and inlet piece for it aswell then? stretching hose over the end is a bit ghetto

Yep thats how the standard cars fit on.

This may be of help to you or not, but a guy i know has been recently making snoot boots to fit, if you can supply him with sizes sure he can make you up in siicone hose a reducer pipe from the inlet to the intercooler. he knows the size of the inlet as he has used my spare intercooler to make it up. its just you would need to tell him the intercooler pipe sizing.

I just think trying to stretch a bit of pipe over it will cause you problems.

on that diagram, whats parts would i need, the clamp(what number part?)? (not very good with these drawings) and what's a snoot boot? the air filter that i've bough has a 73mm Inlet then it needs to attach on to the charger at some point?

i carried out the eaton M45 charger conversion to my 2.0 16v ABF seat ibiza last year.

I made customer brackets to mount the charger and used std inlet manifold, injectors, etc. This was for the 1st stage of the conversion.

When i 1st drive her after fitting the charger at 2.5k the ECU couldn't cope with the boost and used to massively underfuel. So at 2.5-3k the car would just nose dive like hitting a wall.

I fitted a larger pulley to the charger over the original to drop the boost down. According to the boost guage in car this gave about 2-3psi. The car ran fine like this, the only problem being the boost would drop off to 0psi at 6k revs upwards.

I had her on the rollers and we used the adjustable fuel presure regulator id fitted to increas fuel pressure by 1 bar and with the lower abount of boost it fueled fine (slightly rich bottom end but perfect at 6k revs)
It produced 193bhp which i was pleased with as this figure was at 6,700rpm and boost guage was showing 0psi this high in rev range.

Therefore, i had a supercharged ibiza for £500 (still on std internals, compression, etc.)

I carried out approx 3-4000 miles like this, including a long weekend trip of abuse to the nurburg ring with no problems what so ever, managing a sub 10 min lap too :D

This is a pic of the engine bay after the conversion:

I have now stripped the car back to a bare shell for a total rebuild to track spec. Therefore no interior, less weight, more power!
I plan to drop back to standard charger pulley (more boost) and fit larger injectors and possibly aftermarket management and an intercooler.

So there you go, with a little trial and error charging a seat ibiza isn't that difficult! hope this helps!

With a cheeky shot of NOS in there too ;)

unfortunatly not mate. I never got the nos plumbed in properly. I brought the nos and then fitted as a purge kit while i sorted the charger. Never got round to actually running with the nos. always time though .. . .

thats the inlet side,

snoot boot is the little silicone bits that sit betweent eh intercooler and the supercharger on the mini.

Telford ay it...
Is 3 psi worth the bother? Surely blowing on a straw would create more pressure

Sorry mate you mite have covered this but whats the idea of changing the inlet manifold?

gna be more than 3 psi mate, more like 15psi, it'll be over 1 BAR anyway

the reason for changing the inlet manifold is to get a better airflow, and because of how the eaton charger is laid out, it's easier to cut and weld a new manifold than to try and use the 16v one. I'm going by instruction anyway lol

I only reduced boost to trial the system. I plan on smaller pulley and bigger injectors, etc soon.

And i thought the same 3 psi is nothing BUT . . .the Vw specialist i used still guestimates ive gained 20-30 bhp from conversion based on other cars he has seen with same engine mods before i charged it. Persoanlly the difference in the car was imence too!

The eaton 45 chargers can run max 14,000ish RPM, so charger pulley to crank pulley radio must be 2:1 so at 7,000rpm the charger is not over reving its self to bits. This is similar to radio on a mini cooper S, and they make approx 7psi std if im not mistaken. From my experiments i cant see how people can expect to run more than 7psi without over working charger to death . . . However, until i get her running on std smaller pulley again and observing boost guage in car i wont know. People put smaller pulley's on the chargers but doing the maths on charger max RPM this doesn't make sence?

Correct me if im wrong . . .

we''ll see if my engine decides to leave the car lol, i think nando is running 15psi with his merc kompressor and there isn't much of a difference between the chargers IIRC

also mine's an S works charger, it has different shaped screws and possibly a slightly smaller pulley as stock, but nando is gna check if we can get a smaller pulley. I think the S-Works charger gives 50bhp over normal cooper-S minis anyway. Should be interesting

Yup! ive really enjoyed coverting mine! trial and error all the way, but its a good way to learn too!

I knew nothing about superchargers before i started!

neither did i, i wanted a G40, but then saw nandos thread on edition38 and it got me thinking, luckily he's the nicest bloke you'll meet and he said he'd help me, so it's all turned out for the best really
