Looking at doing some work on my TDI FR just wondered what every one else has done to theirs as I have only ever tuned petrol cars. Be cool if people would give some info and put pics up.

You have a lot to learn.

Here, read this DPF clicky As yours is a facelift FR TDI you probably won't have any issues due to your Common Rail injection rather than the prefacelift PD injection.

Cheers for that Nath. do you reckon removing this is a bit dodgy then, but on the other hand does it improve BHP as it isnt being filtered. Does it work like a decat pipe?

Leigh, as yours is a facelift leon, with the later injection you should have less problems than the older models so I personally would give the dpf removal a miss right now and as your under warranty:whistle: Your engine was designed to work with the dpf, where as the older pd injection system was never designed to, hence the problems
Remap would be the first step and maybe some lowering springs, like eibach pro springs which work very well with standard fr shocks or eibach sportline if you are after a little lower..

Cheers John, it wouldn't be just yet, how ever I have read a few posts and Lads have had stage 2 remaps and have had their DPF removed do you know if this is something you have to do or not? Is there any one on here that has a business in doing this.

I'm picking up a prefacelift FR Tdi on the weekend. From what youre saying above, does it mean that I would have problems 'IF' I removed the DPF? or that I would get problems anyway.. therefore I 'SHOULD' remove the DPF?

Generally speaking it is common to get dpf problems with the dpf in place in the older pd models new cr leon fr's run cleaner and have less problems with there dpf. DPF delete remapping will greatly improve power but also comes with the risk of problems, but just your luck really. :)

If it does get removed and does get a problem is it major?

All depends mate, i have had sensor problems, i dont think anyone has had anything major as such, but there is always a chance of turbo/clutch problems with the power out put being requested.

DPF's basically a stupid crappy naff device imposed on the public that drive diesels by someone in an office in Brussells that isn't interested in what's best, just to keep eco mentalists who can't see past the end of their noses. (Deep breath!)

Crash course, DPF catches the soot (black smoke) on a diesel and burns it off when the car is running at high speed continuously. This means there's never any black smoke, but to burn the soot off it obviously has to be very hot...in excess of 800 degrees. So if you do alot of town driving, it fills with soot and then you HAVE to go for a quick drive. Quite annoying when you're in the centre of London and it starts running rough [:@]

Mine's coming off as soon as my warranty runs out:D although it is a Pre facelift.

From my research (including listening to Bigg's problems) you need someone respectable with a good track record. Andrew JB has a good Readers Ride thread detailing his experiences of de-dpf.
