I've made a thread recently comparing the Seat Leon Cupra 180 Remapped VS a standard LCR.
Now, in terms of power, the Remapped Golf would be the exact same as an LCR for straight line performance. The only time you'll notice a difference, is when the speed rises to double the speed limit.
Other than this, there nearly identical for performance.
I do wonder whether the Mk3 Golf GTi or the Mk4 Golf GTi was the most unworthy GTi badgewearer of all time. (Shudders and waits for the sh1t to start flying)

There was a post a little while back that listed all the Top Gear power lap times. The LCR was marginally quicker than the MkIV Golf R32 (I checked because my mate has one and reckoned it would destroy my LCR round a track......before I showed him that). That Golf is 237 bhp with 4wd so I think that suggests the handling/setup on MkIV Golfs is just not as good as on LCRs
