This is the new Ibiza Cupra!

Well if anyone can verify what changes were made for the 150hp version in the Tiguan. Then that should give us some pretty good ideas as to what they've done on the 180hp debuting in the Cupra.

I will have a look.

I cant find any specifics but it appears this 1.4 tsi is updated version and will consume less fuel also. Lets hope they have sorted the hesitation low down the rev range, the loud noise and the wheezyness of the engine.

it sounds more promising after reading and the option for the bocanegra kit is certainly a good thing

the only thing i saw was the option stated sc and not cupra, although i would assume it would be an option as well going from that

really hope thats the case as i will be buying one if thats the case

as for power i drive a 1.4 mk2 ibiza, i love the car but there is just not enough power. 180bhp from a petrol will give good economy and performance, which in the current economic climate is a good thing and may swing people looking at other hot hatches if they are not as good in that department

lets hope they make a real good effort on the diesel lump. especially as skoda have no plans really for a decent vrs fabia tdi..

But what engine could it be?!?!?!

Seat would have to:

make bespoke versions of the 2 litre tdi

use the old old old old old 1.9

or have to make a bespoke version of the as yet unreleased 1.6tdi as all the info on that says the max it'll be released with is.... err 135...? :S which wouldn't make a good cupra.

To me, it looks like the design team at Seat have looked at this forum, found everything we dont like, wrote them down and designed a car encorperating them all.... just to annoy us. Why design and make a car like the bocanegra, which everyone loved, then ditch it for an inferior design and spec:confused: its marketing suicide at its best

I'd give up and go buy the 123d. Unless someone else can think of a more powerful diesel hatch?

Now what is that?NO hit ,nothing.Probably the body of the car is ill put.:flamed:

I've had a Mk3 Cupra....Mk4 Fr....and when I saw the Bocanegra I couldn't wait to get the new Mk5. Not now though...so disappointed with the new Cupra! :(

It's a very poor effort from Seat, especially after seeing the potential with the Bocanegra. I'm either gonna move up to a Leon or try another make now

I think people are missing a major point in this argument. The Bocanegra was a concept car, not the new Ibiza. People on here seem to have automatically assumed at the time though, that it was one and the same and now they are disappointed. Concept cars are called concept cars because they are concepts.

The only major differences are the light clusters, and the larger wheels. Quite how Seat could justify fitting LED lights at the front, a feature only introduced to the top-end Audi's quite recently, baffles me. Furthermore, the wheels shown are an indication of what can be done to the car. Bear in mind that when the Leon FR was first shown, it ran 17's but when it was officially launched, and when the specs and options were shown, photos appeared of it on 18's, making it much more aggressive.

The Ibiza Cupra may well be the top of the range Ibiza, but it is still an Ibiza, and not a Leon, hence certain features may not be carried over. If I was in the market for a small hatchback, i'd consider the Ibiza Cupra because when you compare the features to other cars in the class, it is clearly the pick of the bunch - 7 speed DSG box, modern design, good looking interior etc.

The Ibiza Cupra will surely be speccable, and people ought to wait until the spec sheets, and options sheets, are officially announced, before complaining that it doesnt look like the Bocanegra.

Right, rant over.

its a very good point, how many concept cars actually see most of the design in a future car there are not that many

if you clook closely the ibiza cupra is not that different from the concept, i was not impressed at first but look closely with the comparison pics earlier and its not that different. plus the future option of the front grill being black and bigger alloys should bring it pretty close to the concept, i think seat should be appluaded for this as i will be down the dealers for one sharpish

Well personally i knew the cupra wouldnt carry over all of the concepts design features, i think the main issue people are having with this cupra is the fact that the rear end looks tacky, its sitting high up in the sky, and that it doesnt have wide fenders giving it a more aggressive look. Clio 197 and corsa vxr each have bodykits that make the stance slightly wider and pretty much every panel on them are changed from the lower models. They look unique and special, the ibiza doesnt.

Also compared to the competition, the only thing the ibiza has that they dont is the 7 speed DSG gearbox, something I personally wouldnt want. I prefer a traditional manual and for tuning purposes a traditional manual is the only way to go.

Other than that the compeition is already better than this cupra. More power, likely to have better chassis', cheap prices, and a bigger change in design over the lower models. I can see big discounts coming on this cupra unless they make some changes. This cupra would be a perfect car if its not the top of the range ibiza but if it is it doesnt stand a chance, unless price starts at 14k.

Bad engines, bad chassis, bad looks, and an automatic transmission all in one.
I may take one, if they gave it for free

The more i read this thread - the more promising i feel it gets for us.

In terms of a diesel lump, the Mk 4 TDI sold well for SEAT, so they'd be mad not to put this in the new car. And remember, VAG always tried to make SEAT it's sporty brand - hence why the Mk4 TDI got a bigger powered lump than the likes of the Polo and even the A3 and Golf at that time. Plus, the 160PS engine is quicker to 60 than the 170PS unit. I've heard great things also, about the new 2.0 common rail engine - remember this is different to the PD unit - and a few lads i know have bought A4's with this unit and it's supposed to be a lot better.

In terms of styling - i was disappointed at first. But the photoshops on here have encouraged me. Im going to set up PaintTheFrontOfMyMk5LikeABocanegra.com (lol!!) and for £2k - will pain the front of your car like that (lol - was just joking there!).

Seriously though, the front look good. The back looks ok too.

But it is the wheels that let it down in my opinion though. But does nobody remember what Citroen did with the C2 (i think it was the Citroen C2)? They were selling 1.1 models with crappy 14" wheels in these fairly big arches, and the VTS with 16"'s in effectively the same arch. BUT, they said at the time that the arches would comfortably take 18s without any rubbing.

What i think SEAT are doing is clever business - basically, we all love our Cupras - which they know - so we all poopoo those pics - a few take the plunge and buy at similar price to the old model. Then, six months down the line - "Bocanegra pack - £1500 - includes 18/19" wheels and lowered springs". A bit like what they did with the Leon FR at first - i.e. now you can buy the bodykit etc that makes it look truly stunning.

For me then, it'll be a white Mk 5 Cupra (please do it in Candy white!), with 18" wheels (painted black), lowered springs (by SEAT to keep warranty happy!) and possibly a black front end.

Please can one of you nifty photoshop guys do a set of 3 pics of it in white, with boca front and black wheels??
