Hi, the R1's gearbox is an integral part of the engine so has to be kept. I havent got reverse gear but its almost like a shopping trolley - easy to push with the roll bar. Where the chain sproket would go to drive the rear axle on the bike this is replaced. For rear engined cars you could keep this chain setup but as ive rotated the engine for front mounting the chain sproket is replaced with a sproket adapter to fix a propshaft. The propshafts are then custom made to accomodate a centre bearing so that the engine does not have to sit inline with the diff. The prop is usually a TRT with sliding joints to dampen the harsh running of the engine. reverse can be fitted for electrically with a starter motor and sprocket on the rear drive or a reverse box can be fitted. Both add some weight, expensive at £700+, steal power and are known to blow up. Diff and rear drive all remain pretty standard other than IRS setup, although at one point il probably upgrade to an LSD if needed after its been on track.

Cool, cheers. Bike gearbox would be fun on the track, as would the amount of revs :D

With not much practice you can up-shift without the clutch on a bike (although never ridden an R1), pressure on the lever, off the gas and it should snick in.

I've seen paddle shift kits, but they seem expensive...

don't even lean on the lever usually just a flick off the throttle, easier by hand but with practice could be fun on a foot throttle

Looking cracking though at last :):):):)

have you stuck a gear indicator on it yet ?

Thanks for the comments, Paddle shift kit wasnt much for mine and now ive got it i could make my own for under half the price. Its just a tube that mounts over steering coloumn that has 2 rod ends that has a paddle plate attached, then all you need is a cable which is pretty simple to attach to one paddle end then to the gear lever and make some brackets up. Cant wait to get it at some speed to do some clutchless shifts but as 1st is used upto 60mph around town its not great for practising :)

Nope no gear indicator. would be nice right now but i think after im used to it i wont need one anyway as most cars dont but il see how it goes.
