Don't attempt to change trains... that's a conversation on the software thread. Basically each train is updated so the higher number of the train is the one with the fixes in it for known bugs, 02xx say is the last and great than 0245 etc in your case. There is a 03xx, 04xx and an 05xx. Each top end one is the fix for that train where bugs are found. If it's working well don't update. I left our Arona on 0512 saw no point in updating to 0516.

knew i saw it somewhere

Result - well done!

Is that with a bigger SD card?
It was, I used a MIB2 v6 card I bought on eBay. 😊

As for the old part number, it's weird because V03959803RN doesn't seem like a SEAT part number, looks like an Audi one. I'd have thought there would need to be a '5F' or 'F' part number. 🤷‍♂️ Oh well, sorted now.

They are standard multi platform releases and just throw up the part number from the file based on the firmware in the unit. So it goes Seat part number 4 etc but how it protects the updates in mib1 from not having mapcare is to look at whether the part number has changed. If you change it. Naughty boy, you don't have mapcare, no maps shown. Edit it in yourself as post 2820 above, good boy.🎉

Well I've edited it into the resource on the basis we now have the universal solution for mib1 sd based map updates, taken over six years. Mib2 standard Exciter sorted it out within a year. Think the PCP guys were onto their new cars with mib2 so the mib1 trail went dead.

@cupra14 I think you might be on the old firmware where the others updated. You can be the Guinea pig and try doing it without the firmware update. So it's everything said without the firmware update. Give it a go. Then if that doesn't work, do the firmware update. I suspect it doesn't need mib1_5F_480.rar but if you tried it without doing that it would be a useful check.

I note the East Yorkshire Retrofit link for the firmware talks about changing the long string of the unit if an old unit, if you haven't got a coding device you'd probably not want to do it if you didn't have too:

The maps were release for Audi Mib-S which must be their naming of mib1 standard that's based on the serial number on mibsolution.one and Googling. Pan release thou. Reckon the new "mib1 workaround" instructions will work without the firmware change.... but it would be nice to know for future reference.

I'm not sure what you mean by Give it a go.

I do have the RAR file but have done nothing with it (as yet).

I don't yet have a VW-type SD card (other than the one with my maps).

What I mean is when you get the 16gb Mib2 SD card, but if you are not on the firmware, do the map edits with the download and see if it works. Really, we are testing whether you need the final firmware for it.... that's if you haven't got it. I would imagine its not important that you need 480 mib1 firmware for it to work. Mind you, if you have it, it's not something that I can get you to test. Perhaps you are still reading up on the subject.

The subject is ... long. And quite mixed in with MIB2. I'll happily try what you put when I get a bigger card (may need help with the actual edits then). Thanks.

I certainly would like to be able to just change the card from current to bigger (with updated maps) to see if it works - so I can revert to my current card if not.

My "Installed SW MU Version" is 0425, if that's what you were meaning.

Mib2 Standard Map Release ECE 24/25 has arrived 5 months late (November 2023 release). Serial release 2210. Eagle eyes on the Skoda side had spotted it laying on the VW file servers:

20240322_170530.jpg

It's all Europe. Card release 19 if you bought it on an SD card. It's the 32 GB card release, so won't fit on the older 16gb cards as is. Early days yet on finding the other releases. The professionals are on it. You can always buy a VAG 32gb card off ebay if you have the need. I don't recommend hacking down the map to fit on a 16gb SD card.

For Seat you have to do the map workaround we all know that ?. Take a copy of the original SD card is the first thing since you will need the overall.nds file unless you have a 2019 map card. Doesn't hurt doing the workaround even if you have the 2019 version with life time navigation FeCs. Again TomTom cartography so if you need TMC to work you need to use old maps and the TMC mod to get it on Inrix which is alive and well.

See workaround in the resource which you must do on a mib2 standard Seat unit and UK TMC links if you want that, but you can't have the latest mib2 standard maps and TMC thou, TomTom map provider hasn't supported Inrix. The older Here Maps one does with a mod:

Groundhog day:

Workaround

Using a PC or a MAC ?

PC: 7 Zip is the preferred VW tool, other unzip tool including those built into Windows, can cause difficulties.

7 zip can be obtained from

https://www.7-zip.org/download.html

MAC: VW instructions

"ATTENTION

If the map update is performed using the Apple® OS X operating system you may find that
Discover Media does not recognise the map material or displays it incorrectly. This is due to
a lack of compatibility between the “7 zip” program and the OS-X operating system. In
addition, the OS-X operating system has a tendency to create hidden additional files on
external data media. We therefore recommend that OS X users use the “Keka” unzipping
program. We also recommend using the “CleanMyDrive” program to remove any hidden files."

If a MAC is used CleanMyDrive is run against the SD card after the maps are copied across to the SD card.

Having identified which unzipping tool is required and special Mac SD card cleaning required... free to proceed.

Steps:

  1. Download the latest standard MIB2 maps
  2. on the infotainment go to settings, safely remove, sd1 card
  3. remove sd1 card from glove box slot
  4. long press on the on / off to reboot it a couple of times
  5. insert sd card in to computer
  6. copy and paste all contents to a directory on your computer
  7. Format the SD card keep it as fat32 and leave format settings as default in file explorer (don't forget to push the card lock mechanism to off) (ditto in a MAC or delete all from the SD card)
  8. Copy the new downloaded map version to the SD card (after unzipping it)
  9. Replace /maps/EEC/EEC_WLD/OVERALL.NDS on the SD CARD with the one from the original SD card
  10. eject the sd card (on a MAC run CleanMyDrive on the SD card - then eject)
  11. Inserted the card into the card 1 slot in glove box whilst infotainment is off
  12. power on and go to navigation

The unit should then boot up into navigation. Note it does take a little longer first time round. If it refuses to boot up, press the volume button forcing a reboot, hold down until the unit reboots. If this fails it will be issues on the overall.nds file / copy issues. Revisit the process. Failing this restore the back up.

You will also need to pick up any POIs that you show on the screen since these will be dropped after a map update. Petrol stations, parking location etc.

Do not format the card in anything other than Fat32. The unit runs QNX so will not correctly see the SD card if it is not in Fat32 / cluster size gets tinkered with in a reformat. The CID is not deleted in a format that is outside of the area that can be addressed but reformatting has been known to corrupt the card.

---

Well 7 just highlight the files for deletion and wait. Some Windows 10/11 reformats mess up these cards, a delete doesnt.

or just turn the cid off and use any card ;)
The probability of messing up your unit with the mib2 standard toolkit for the average person is high so better not to hack the firmware but hack the program that the firmware uses ie the map file. That's free.

Retrofitters do sell the firmware mod for the life long navigation FeCs and taking off the need for the CID on the SD card. At worse at some stage the SD may wear out and you have to buy a new one at £20-£40 with the CID on it verses hacking the unit and a cheaper SD card. I'd stick to the non hacked unit myself and just the workaround. It's easier.

Is it possible to somehow fit full Europe map on original sd card? Newest map without sds is 15GB, but 16GB sd card is in reality 14.8GB.
My problem is that my country is only in ECE7, but if I download it, I won't have Germany for example that I would need.
So can I somehow delete UK or any country from ECE1 and make it fit to my original sd card?
I tried deleting E1 folder and it didn't work witout it...

V18 hack off the net keep Seat, get rid of the other. It gets a bit silly since it will catch up on you as the maps grow. I say buy a 32gb card rather than hack.

That below was written from a VW perspective. So keep Seat, SE. Delete VW etc. Something to try. Original hack just got rid of the non applicable languages and kept the countries in the European file. That got out moded as the maps grew beyond the hack, so next they start hacking down the countries. That is what you have below.

》》
I managed to get DiscoverMedia2_EU-AS_2110_V18 working on my Golf 7.5 2019 Discover Media with 16 GB VAG SD card by doing below changes to the package. Hopefully following can be applied to other MIB2 platforms.

Removing unnecessary brand folders and files from mapcfg-folder and extra languages from sds-folder was not enough to make the package fit to the 16 GB card. Unluckily the navigation did not run if files were brutely deleted from region nds-folders. Instead of deleting files from nds-folders I decided to replace big files of irrelevant (to me) region with smaller files of some other region. This seemed to keep the system satisfied and so far the navigation has worked normally. When the next update comes and the package grows even bigger I will probably just select a second not-so-relevant region to tamper with.

Delete:
\maps\00\cfg\mapcfg\SEAT
\maps\00\cfg\mapcfg\SKODA
\maps\00\cfg\mapcfg\se_default.cfg
\maps\00\cfg\mapcfg\sk_default.cfg
\maps\00\sds\ - all folders except FI, SE and GB
\maps\00\nds\PRODUCT\E10\ROUTING.NDS

Copy:
\maps\00\nds\PRODUCT\E13\ROUTING.NDS to folder \maps\00\nds\PRODUCT\E10\

Depending on your own region you can choose to replace the ROUTING.NDS of some other region. For me E10 was the most irrelevant and ROUTING.NDS from E13 was small enough to get the package to fit the SD card. I found the region codes from: https://www.skodacommunity.de/threa...2-release-2023-fuer-mib1-mib2.103181/page-186

《《

You could try that adjusting to the car Seat and countries of interest. You still need the overall.nds workaround.

This is where I think its much easier just to buy a 32gb Vag card, use the overall.nds workaround than fiddle with files on each map release if the zones aren't of use to fit on the original 16gb card.

I thought any genuine card worked with any mib2 ? The cid was to use any sd card.
I always just copied new map data over the old one.

Any card with a genuine VAG CID on it which will be Genuine VAG cards or SD card where the CID can be written and you write it. Few of those about and you need the card reader on the motherboard, Linux etc. I did that once. Repeated what Exciter did, the originator of the workaround. It's on the thread.

It's in fact cheaper to buy a Vag mapcard card, Seat, Skoda, VW etc than buy a rewritable SD CID card and clone your existing card. Those cards are pricey. You can always do what you did hack the firmware but that's more problematic. Less hassle way is to buy a 32gb Vag card off ebay, use the workaround and it's done.

That's what I'm talking about, try it on your existing firmware (0425) when you get a 16gb mib2 map card to put it on, with the part number edit of your existing one on those two lines. The only missing thing to be confirmed is whether you really need to be on the 0480 firmware to make it work, but I doubt it. The first two to get it to work were on 0480 but the stumbling block after that was the partnumber edit.

This

Basically for mib1 it goes like this, from your old map file read:

PartNumber="your old part number"

Edit the the new map file two parameters too:

Obviously your your old part number is your old part number. Use the notepad editor if Windows.

Thanks.

When editing the DBInfo.txt from the P106...7z do I add in the PartNumber2, PartNumber3 & PartNumber4 settings from my old SD card?

When I've made the changes & put the new file on the 16GB SD card, do I just put the SD card into the car and switch on the ignition / start the car? Will I see new messages / how long will it take? Anything else?

Take a copy of your original mib1 card. It's just part number 1 of your old card you use. Leave part numbers 2 - 4 as is on the new map. Seems the unit is fooled to think you have not swapped maps cards. It's anchored on the part number 1 (the Audi part numbern). That seems to be what it's doing. Edit with notepad you don't want word processor characters added as well.

Put the card in and you should be fine. I always say force a reboot of the unit on mib2s by holding in the On/off button till you see the splash screen again. If swapping map cards in quick succession it will still hold elements of what it's read from the card before and reject reading the new map correctly. That's always good to do on these card based systems if it's not getting the 20 minutes power off cycle when switching maps.

The DBInfo.txt from the P106 7z doesn't have PartNumber 2, 3 or 4. I'm wondering whether to add them (as well as changing the others).

I keep the ECE 2013 from the new (P106 7z) & also the
ApplicationSoftwareVersionNumber="0106" ?

I'm being careful to keep the CRLF line ends and add no other stuff.
