Cheers UncleFester, ordered the discs and carriers today. Can't believe the carriers are more than the discs....lol

Does anyone have a part number for the Ferodo DS2500's to suit this 312 application?

Product Code: FDS1463?

So does that mean the pads you would buy for my standard 288mm discs.

Mean that i can use 288mm pads on 312 mm discs?

because im using the same caliper, surely they area of the pad wont be wide enough to cover the area on the bigger 312mm disc

isnt that the job of the carrier?

caliper and pads are identical on both. 312mm is more effective because:
1. Greater leverage or torque due to incresed radius by 10%.
2. Bigger swept area pads same size but total area each disc revolution is greater
3. Better heat dissapation - larger mass of metal, disc has high perimeter velocity so greater cooling.

some may say lala land....
reading through this as i'm about to do the 312 mm upgrade, and useful it was too

I have a set of mintex extreme, which will do for a while, however;
What discs have people purchased?
What would you recommend?

I've looked on crn and read through but not sure what to get.
see tarox mentioned & grooved & zinc but means nothing to me i'm afriad.

Zinc coating is a anti-rust protective coating. Stops them from going brown with the rain/salt, not sure how long these Zinc coats last though.

People say avoid drilled discs as they tend to explode, grooved discs should keep cooler than non-grooved discs.

I've got the CRN audi TT discs to go on mine, 6 grooves per side.

More grooves = more braking noise, but I don't know how bad as I've never had any grooved discs before.

i used to have grooved red dot on the focus and they made a cool buzzing when braking heavy but it wasnt massivly loud,,, drilled disks do crack alonf the drillings but only if your ragging them all the time on a track etc...

Hate to dig out an old thread.... just have a couple of questions. How much would a reasonable price be for some seccond hand carriers from say a TT, S3 or 1.8T cupra be? Also would there be much difference in price and/or performance from normal disks from the TT, S3 or 1.8T cupra and grooved ones from CRN (for example)? Thanks

I bought set of octavia mk1 vrs calipers and hangers front and rear for £200. can upgrade front to 312 as octavia uses same , so i will simply tart up calipers, and swap with existing fronts as front carriers new are £100 from vag parts or ....around £100 each from stealer. i also intend to upgrade rear, hence octavia rears, hence CRN disks. grooved will be better as will help stop disks/pads glazing up.
