Vagcat & VAG part numbers

According to Vagcat there are 5 different water pumps listed for the Arosa (all engine codes, 1.0 & 1.4). It seems that more than one of them will fit my 1.4 APQ engine too. I have found someone selling a genuine vag waterpump and it specifically mentions my model and engine code. However, when I cross reference the part number with vagcat it is different by one letter.

So I'm not sure what to go on?

Vagcat waterpump part no: 030121008DX & 030121008D
Genuine vw waterpump part no: 030121008CX

Is it likely that more than one pump will fit?

If I remember correctly, the last letter of VAG part numbers is the variant, IE the later letter is a newer part. I remember when looking for coil packs I had 123456789 A on the car, 123456789 F showing up on Ebay, and TPS were wanting to sell me 123456789 N as the latest part.

I am 99% sure you'll be ok with that water pump, it will just be missing one change. It will still work fine.

I spoke to a guy at Seat and he said the X on the end means it is an exchange item. When I gave him the part number to check he said it wasn't listed for my model. I expect you are right and it would probably fit, but I don't want the garage to call saying its the wrong one when they are trying to fit it! I get one that I know will fit and pay a bit more. A genuine seat one is only £34!

Yeah, I think for the sake of £34 it's not worth the trouble. I was getting desperate with the coilpacks, couldn't find them anywhere so I was collecting all sorts of variants, just to get my car back on the road!

I've just had the same thing with my local SEAT dealer, the VW nuts and bolts I had listed for my bush change didn't come up on their system properly, and one didn't appear at all. They said that they can't get anything other than SEAT parts, whereas a VAG Trade Parts Specialist can get all parts.

Coincidentally, all the part numbers for the nuts and bolts are '+1' for the equivalent SEAT version! I suspect if I had been at work and managed to get to the TPS place I normally use, they would have been able to use the exact part numbers and I would have been ordering the same parts.
