I think you're right about it seeming worse on some colours; mine was dark blue and the chips revealed the white paint underneath. Maybe on lighter colours such as yellow it wouldn't be so obvious

time for a MINI adventure
my Zenith grey Ibiza showed stone chips far too easily the paint is very soft. I've heard allot about Skoda's & SEAT's paint, less so funnily enough with VW's and Audi's. I've always said, the owner will always keep the best for themselves. SEAT scrownge on everything because of VW!!!! Damn the parents, hehehe

I noticed a patch of paint under my driver's door handle didn't match the rest of the panel and parts of the roof seemed a little dis-coloured too! I never queried it as I thought it was something to do with the shocking paint treatment I'd ordered (AutoGlym LifeShine) what a complete and utter waste of money that was!!! It was only when I took it in for a service I asked the manager and he said, oh we can rectify that for you...I said "eh no, I don't think I'll bother thanks" knowing they'd bodge it knowing what they did with the valet on my dads car and the protection they applied to mine...ha, don't fink so!!! :cartman:

sorry for rambling

Still, apart from Rash theres not a mk4 on here that'd touch mine, is that maybe why you lot diss the mini so much:lol::lol::lol::lol:. For all you Mini haters come to the Top gear studio next saturday, there will be 250 of us New shape minis there including 2- 390bhp ones.

You flipping gays, i even stated on another thread i'll be back in Ibiza Tdi end of the year:p:p

Top gear - J. Clarkson - R. - Hammond - Mini -

Oh, and the reason i hate the mini has nothing to do with its driving abilities, purely that it is totally devoid of taste, style and any individuality- pretty much like Top Gear...............imo

Oh dear........is it really necessary to turn a simple thread about paint chips into a slagging match between cars..........? Ooooh, my T-Sport's faster than your GTI-6.......but my Metro 6R4 will poo over all of you......yeah but my cars got body coloured mirrors......

Well, my car seems quite good with regard to stone chips - it's got a few on the front of the bonnet, but nothing major. It could be due to the shape of the car, more than anything. My mate's Escort GTI used to get really badly stone chipped because of the sloping nose.
The only annoying one on mine is on the top lip of the roof above the windscreen. I spoke to Seat about repairing it & they reckon they can do it, but it's very expensive as the windscreen has to come off to do it properly. If they just mask it, then apparently the lacquer peels off quite easily with the wind.

The Wrong side of the Pennines
Funny all of this. We run a couple of 1996 Caddys and a couple of 2001 Inca vans which are almost identical. The Incas are peppered with rusty stone chips and the Caddys aren't. Use is the same as the vans are rotated to even the milages up every six months. More evidence of how that SEAT is cheaper than the VW.

No not me, just going a long to see a few guys i know. Only trouble is some of the Mini guys are quite gay, its not liek going to a SEAT meet. You know they have bought a mini, stuck a sticker on the roof and they think its modded. or the other wierdos who seem obsessed with sticking chrome bits to their car.

There are very few who do proper stuff to the car. like engine stuff.

back to paintwork issues, when i get my TDi sport end of year i will be going platinum again because it seems the best paint for weathering the abuse of the roads. Plus any chips you do get it hides lovely. Only downside it never polishes up as good as a nice red or black.

Mines fine, no soft paint - seems I got a good egg ;)

Nothing wrong with the new Mini's, especially a sorted one - with a smaller pulley and a chip those things fly, and the first Cooper S' handle really well... I almost got one but didn't like the image that comes with them.
