Dude, you are doing a phenomenal job, but ultimately its a race car , its going to get bashed and knocked around . If I was you (what fcuk do I know I'm just an old grumpy b'stard).
You can still finish it to a good standard just lower that standard a bit , I've been there done that I cant begin to tell you how it feels to plow 30k into the best race car out there only to barrel role it into oblivion in your second only race and not have the funds/time to race again.

Lol done it to a 13k saxo and had to reshell it in 2 weeks to get out to the next meeting.
This is the beast.. easy chase type R's round brands hatch with it.. even Sierra cosworths around the gp circuit

Same here in bristol, barely a road in the city without a wheel breaking pothole somewhere along it. F**king piss take when road tax on a 1.8t is £345 a year.

You're kidding? For the TDI FR it's less than half that.

As i know it'll be a track car i wont be making the paint and body perfect or anything. I know being on a track means lots of rocks and or debris!

Im gonna swap over the engine and turbo from an 8L s3 and then part out what parts I don't need. Idea is to lose 200kg

Poly windows all around and fiberglass hood, trunk, fenders, stripped out interior and unneeded things like AC and wiring not needed seats window motors etc. I will make a custom dash and prob have some kind of universal digital cluster or gauges.

Being pedantic, there is no road tax. That £345 goes straight to the government. If you're in a Tory shire county they probably then send £1 of that to the council for road maintenance and about 2p if you're in a less well to do area :-D

Definitely worth pointing out. Being a cyclist too, I get a lot of stick about it.

Being based on emissions, the whole system is fundamentally flawed - I can tune my car so it's more efficient yet pay the same VED as an unmodified one.

And don't get me started on the sheer unsustainability of manufacturing new cars - whether ICE or electric - when running and maintaining my fifteen year old Leon is infinitely better. Yet they get low or zero VED and I pay £160.

The more I look at it, the more it reveals itself as a scam.

Took it to local Stealers to ask them about cost of cloning my key to a new one that I’ve already got (blade cut + virgin transponder).
After 4 different sales people and 2 service technicians I was eventually told that it would be £108 but no guarantee of it working £108 just to clone a wee glass transponder WTF!!!!
So just laughed, turned around and walked straight out.
Got home and gave her a damn good wash

I'm in the same boat. I have a brand new key from TPS, but needs cutting, coding and the transponder matched up. No idea what its going to cost or if its even possible, i know nada about keys. My car only came with the spare.

Hi Connor, you can get the blade cut either at Timpsons or as I did online (you upload a photo of your original key blade) and they cut it to match.
As for coding, you might be able to do it yourself using the original key - check your car manual.
The cloning of the chip I thought was going to be easy using VCDS, however, the cable I bought from vag-diagnostics doesn’t want to work . I might look at buying a cloning machine (similar to chores VVDI or Handy Baby), if it works then I might offer a service - for beer tokens

Oh cool. I might get the blade cut while im waiting to find someone/somewhere that can handle the rest. I have been recommended to try a local mobile auto key/locksmith, any experience with these kind of entities?

Dropped off my spare set of alloys to get refurbed (winter spares) and will get tyres fitted as well - I had a spare pair of winter tyres in shed + I’ve just had a new set of Michelin PS 4’s fitted to my daily’s, so the better of the old 2 tyres will be used on the other 2 wheels.
