Also a quick question I have gauges where my center vents use to be, can you still use the heating system and air con as normal or will it effect the way the gauges work, always wondered this?

Just driving along the dual carriageway with him sat on my back bumper. So opened the taps ?

Took it semi easy as the cambelt history is moody and it needs a service.

My last car was a Mk2 Golf GTD,
The SB engine was the filthiest thing for emissions.
Tailgaters would be erased in a cloud of PM10's & whatever else it could spew out.
I loved that car.

never touched mine other than replacing battery, seat seem to have covered that fuses and connectors with some sort of anti corrosion stuff looks like a grease odd, might be worth using contact cleaner on that as you may have oxidation

get a gates kit and a water pump slapped on might be even worth dropping all the antifreeze as well, would worry me to much that, when you got car did you not ask for cambelt history? mine did not at 48k nothing in black and white so the seller knocked 400 quid off , had it swapped and was genuine also looked ok for 6yr old belt you could even see the maker name on the belt, but def not worth the risk

Its booked in for full service and cambelt kit in September using genuine parts.
I bought the car last march and the seller told me it had been done in the January. There was an invoice from euros in the paperwork i got with the car from the January but who knows.

Should be ok mate. Only thing I’d be concerned about is the high heat we use in the winter. What gauges you got there?

Any chance you can pull them out and block the pipework behind? That'll help.

Alternatively, refit the original dash vents and send me the gauges and facia.
I can look after them for you ?

It should be the first thing people do when they get a new car - especially if it's got a patchy service history. I changed mine straight away on 80k when I got the car and then again a couple if years ago on 160k. If the belt looks good, all that means if that you've done the right thing. If it looks ropy, then you've definitely done the right thing.

If the gauges where fitted properly then they will have stuffed the back with something to protect them. I used bubble wrap.

I've been looking at manifolds lately as I like to get a quote from a garage to see how much they'd actually charge for jobs I'm looking at doing myself. Same garage that quoted me more than £1k for a clutch change has said £225 to clean the intake and if they have to replace the manifold it'll cost me more than £750. I can get a custom manifold from Darkside for £270 so I have no idea where they're getting an OEM manifold for £500...

Time you get to looking at belt you may as well just replace it, I asked this at my old garage so changed it and the seller offer 400 quid off just to sell car, happy days that as then I was already getting a good deal at time.

Ive not bothered pulling the cover off for a look.
No point.
Theres only one garage it trust round my way and they be the ones doing the job in September.
Im sure itll be fine till then.
If not itll end up at the Wronghorse and CO vehicle dismantlers.
And ill be lookin for a cheap shitter to get me out of trouble.
