• Evo Magazine are looking for a mint and (and ideally unmodified) Leon Cupra Sub8 to drive and photograph for a feature. Find out more here .
  • Hey Guest👍👎 We're looking for reviews of your local CUPRA or SEAT Dealership - it's quick and easy to do: Leave a review now
I would personally:

- buy all new bolts
- replace the o-ring for the oil pickup (buy original if possible)

@iammooks You got this

Sound advice there - some things you can't take any chances with, and bolts and o-rings are right up there.

Everything is back together again now. Turned the engine over to bleed the coolant and nothing concerning happened. No coolant spraying everywhere, no fumes at all in the engine bay, and the slight slack in my steering seems to have gone too, but I'll find out when I actually take it for a drive. At the moment the undertray is still hanging off until I put the chimney clips in to finally hold the front bumper in place properly. There's another job I've been meaning to do for years.

Cleaned up a bit while lots of stuff was out. It'll never look as pretty as the Cupra R engine bay, but once the engine cover is back on, it'll be passable.

One of the EGR to intake manifold threads stripped, so I'm going to use a longer bolt with a nut on the other side. So glad I've got the space there to do it - otherwise I'd probably have to learn how to do a helicoil. Annoyed at myself for missing it when it was out, because there's no space for a drill. But hey, the nut and bolt will do the job perfectly, so it'll be fine.

Probably spent more time and money on the car than it's worth by a long way by now, but that's not why we do it, it's it?

If there was a cupranet award for most time and effort put into one car then I think you won it. I’m impressed at how you’ve kept the motivation!!👍

If the fix doesn't work, I think I have at least one spare inlet manifold you can have

I'm so broken... I've either been on the floor under the car not knowing which way is up half the time or bent over the engine with my hands in awkward places trying to get to awkward bolts. Caked in carbon half of that time too. Make that 90%. And that's on the low end, really. I'm mentally and physically broken, but it seems to run better. Less play in the steering, but there have been some tight spots in the steering that are definitely more noticeable now. I don't want to have to take the rack out, I really don't.

Before I forget, check this out:

It was running cold for a while, so I took the long way home from the supermarket, after checking the coolant levels in the car park. All of a sudden, it came up to temperature, super smooth, and stayed there. Dead centre. Beautiful thing to see, it really was. Means the thermostat I put in is working, opened up when it was supposed to, and it meant the coolant had got where it was supposed to, rather than on the Lewes Road. And it means the coolant temperature sensor I put in is actually working and was telling the truth when the engine never really got up to temperature.

Made it all worthwhile.
