i have searched though past threads regarding the change from normal bulbs to a Xenon kit. i think this is a worth while mod to do as i plan on running the car in to the ground.

a few questions befor i go and spend £150 of hard earned cash on a kit....

1) are there any brands to stay clear of?
2) whats a good price ? (i dont have a lot of money as i am saving up a deposit for a house.)
3) are the kits really as easy as plug n play as stated, (i know it will take about 3/4 hr to do the change)

is there anything i should be made aware of before i do this conversion.

Thanks

Adam

Visit site
See if you can organise a group buy, and get them for discount, and as for fitment yes it is easy mate, I did it on my own, and once i realised that it was alot more simple than i thought it would be, it was all done.

Chaps, have a look in the Mk1 Leon forum and check out a thread called 'Cheap HID's by myself. The first post contains a link to a website that myself and a number of other Leon owners have bought from with great success.

The total cost of a full HID kit, including shipping, is around £65. The kit is identical to kits sold in the UK for double that. The same website also sells spare parts, bulbs, ballasts etc for seriously good prices.

Well worth a look if you're interested in doing this mod :)

Yeah that's the one Sharky. On the lower right hand side of that page is an option to change the currency :)

Adam - all of those colours you mention are too blue. The bluer you go, the less usable light you end up with and the more unwanted attention you get from the Police.

6000k is the ideal mix of blue tints on a usable, crisp white light. 4300k is pure white and the brightest. 8000k and 10000k are more blue than white. 12000k is purple.

If you want the classy look that you see other cars with, stick to 6000k. If you go any higher you'll end up with less light on the road.

Im going to order the 6000k ones as read on other threads that seems to be the one everyone uses and heard no wrong about them - im not telling you which one to get, just what the general option people go for and what i will be purchasing end of month - and for a bargain price!!

It's coming from the other side of the world, so that's to be expected. The overall price is far cheaper than you'll find in the UK though. Delivery, on average, takes around 10 days from ordering to being at your door.

I would be very interested in this if we could get a group buy i have been thinking of this for a while and i have to agree it would probably be best mod for car and it would also add value to car! i kno 6000k is best for but i have to admit i do like the 1200k as i kno if i got these it would only be like 2x brighter than hologen. I was thinking as well that to have these light we all no you have to have washers what if you spliteed the hose from your window washers and put some washers on bumper shure i could get some for under a 5 from scrap yard what do you lot think???

MyDepots.com do offer group buys, but the savings aren't massive as they are already cheap. What you might save on though is the postage if you order a load together, have them delivered to one address and then ship them out from there. It would mean one person collecting payment, placing the order, taking the delivery and then shipping them out to everybody else.

there is no need to have washers for your headlights if you install HIDS.
You only NEED washers if the HIDS are factory fitted, aftermarket is excluded from the law (for some strange reason)

well i just ordered H7 dipped beam for £72. not a bad buy at all since the kit is was looking at before was £180. thanks for the heads up Rob you saved me £110!!!

will buy you a pint if i see you on a meet :)

Adam... you're welcome mate! :)

Donovan... none of the colours are illegal as such, but the law is fussy about what colour lights can be emitted from the front of a car, and blue isn't allowed. So if you're driving around with too much blue shining from the front of your car, PC.Plod isn't going to be best pleased.
