The AA guy said the fuel filter has gone "porous" and needs replaced.

That's a fking service item and I was told that the car would have a service before being sold.

the fuel filter may not have been changed as normally small dealers will just do a oil and filter change , correct me if im wrong but im pretty sure that the fuel filter is due at 40k so they should of done it,

if they dont give a refund, abit of brake fluid over the cars on his pitch would be a nice touch of revenge

Apparently a leaking hose is causing the engine management light to appear (diagnostic computer is reading too lean fuel mixture).
I don't know why they couldn't have found this the first time.

Anyway, waiting for the part to arrive and going down for a third time to get it fixed (I hope).

I'm getting worried though that if they don't manage to fix it by the end of the month's warranty they will just refuse to have any more dealings with me about the car.

As long as you've got all the issues down from day one then they can't not sort them

Still waiting on the hose (it's been over a week). Apparently it's on back order from SEAT :(.

Getting really **** mpg - I guess, because the fuel mixture is out.

And my boot lock is fk'ed again. It's a shame, because I don't feel like I can enjoy the car due to the problems.

Got the hose fitted, but the engine management light's back on.

I'm so frustrated wasting time and petrol money (£15 per trip) to take it back.

It's been back 3 times and it's still not fixed. Do I have any right to take it to SEAT and ask them to bill the garage? How much are SEAT likely to charge to diagnose the problem?

Boot solenoid is also fked.

Not fit for purpose ? Sure you could get them under some form of legislation, how long has it been since you bought it now ?

That is one hot ass. Anyway, I've had it just over four weeks. I bought it on the 9th Jan. '09.

I'm pretty keen to keep it if it can get sorted properly. I'm going to phone them on Monday. I just wanted to find out whether it was reasonable for me to charge them to take it to SEAT.

I'll wait to hear what they say then take it from there. I'd rather work it out amicably than threaten legal action, though, I'll give consumer direct a call to see where I stand anyway.

Cheers.

I'm not sure SEAT will be your best bet.

Any small garage isn't going to be well equipped to fix the problems, they usually only have skills to tidy cars up to sell them (new tyres, clean, oil change, mot etc) on and don't fix actual faults.

Additionally they won't want to spend time and money AFTER they've got your cash.

You can either kick up a stink (if you paid by credit/debit card this can be quite easy) with the garage and keep trying to get them to fix something they probably don't understand.

OR

I'd cut my losses, find a GOOD vag specialist and they'll probably sort it inside a day. Cheaper and better than seat, not free like the garage that sold it but, but it seems to me like your car has had enough people avoiding spending money on it.

As the saying goes 'you get what you pay for'

After 10 years driving various cars and experiencing various problems trying many different ways to getting them fixed (dealers, mates, RAC/AA etc etc) I'm very pleased with my Leon and even more pleased having found a garage which understands the car inside and out and actually fix things and know about the cars faults. Not only that they don't charge for investigating faults only fixing them. MAJOR PLUS.

Either way - good luck, once you've got over this hurdle you'll love the car!

Cheers for the reply. I pretty much agree.

I think I should look for VAG/SEAT specialists in Glasgow to get a quote to diagnose the problem. If it's major I could then take a note of the fault to the original garage to fix.

Just been reading this thread & sorry to hear about your woes fella.
Hope it all gets sorted soon for you so you can start to enjoy your motor :)

Like wuciwug predicted, I took it back and the garage didn't know what was up, so I left with the same problem.

Does anyone know any good VAG specialists in Glasgow, who might be able just to diagnose the problem fairly cheaply?

Cheers.

I called A for Audi.

Apparently they don't charge anything for running a diagnostic test.

I hope it's the case and they can find out what's wrong. I'm going to take it in on Tuesday evening and will post an update.

Been to A for Audi.

Good guys there. They said a breather hose is split and that that's the only thing causing the engine management light to appear.

I'm hoping to get it fixed asap and will be taking it back there for a service & remap :).
