Cause they sound mint :D

Once every other VAG has a supercharger whine im sure the novelty will wear off though. Personally I cant understand why any one would bother with a supercharger anymore when turbo technology has moved on so far.

You diesel boys really are power hungry aint you guys. The 1.6 7 speed DSG will improve acceleration and economy.

And all new small cars will look like a corsa/clio/mazda2/mk5 ibiza due to safety regs and targets put in force by the EU.

Go and drive a cupra TDI and tell me your not power hungry

As for the 1.6, 7 speed "lets go shopping car", thanks but no thanks.

Gotta believe their investigating it further for the emissions possibilities!!!:smoke:

My theory about the supercharged audi unit is that they needed a engine to combat the 335i and they had difficulties in getting a turbocharged version of their 3.0 engine fit in their MLP chassis'. The only advantage I can see of their new engine over a turbocharged engine is that its allowed them to make it more compact. There cannot be any other reason why one of the leaders in turbocharged engines would all of a sudden employ supercharged technology.

I have just been reading that apparently VAG are gonna make a 210hp 1.4 TSI. How true this is I dont know but it does seem alot to ask from a 1.4.

From what I've seen VAG shoehorn into their cars W8 Passats, R32/36 Jettas/Golfs V10/W12 Touaregs...[B)] I can't imagine that they couldn't find a spot to put the "Turbo".

I understand that they have a 200hp 1.4TSI ready to go!:bleh::p Seems reasonable as remaps with this much have been available for some time now.:funk:

I think that maybe they had difficulties getting a 3 litre bi-turbo in the car, along with the DSG gearbox and avoidind horrid weight distribution, with alot of the weight on the nose of the vehicle.

I dont like superchargers though :(

How sexy is that :-o

I think I must be missing something. That red one looks remarkably similar to the official pics of the blue one. It has a slightly more raked back window and and mesh rather than slatted grill. It is shown at a more flattering angle, pointing down rather than up, and the colour helps too.

I thought Tango was the superb little roadster project rather than a coupe?

missed a trick with the blue one to be honest

cordie was a coupe with a boot

blue one has a hatch ?

called have utilised the sportshatch moniker as per VX Astra as they are steaming out the door

It was & the Salsa preceded it in coupe/3door hatch form. It seems like they've revived it's essence in the new Audi TT Club-Sport Roadster!

Yeah it has similarities... Yet unlike many others I won't slight what they've produced in the Ibiza Sport-Coupe. It's just less Sport-Coupe & more Ibiza 3door!!!

Main differences that make it look so much more appealing: Elimination of annoying triangular wing window next to side view mirrors, & yes like a Hyundai Coupe it's actually a coupe!!! It's a notchback as opposed to hatchback style... Think Octavia vs. Golf if it helps. Other differences include the inclusion of retractable headlight washers, more pronounced door indentation, massive wheels, cross drilled rotors, blacked out S emblem, Oh & it's not on stilts!!!

Thanks for that. Yes it does look quite different from the Sport Coupe from the rear quarter angle. I will reserve judgement on the 3 door Mk5 until I have seen some real photos of it. Those highly processed promotional illustrations never look that convincing anyway.

I assume the lower front grille on the FR and Cupra will be different, like the Leon versions (longer at the bottom than the top) which, I think, will transform the front view. The front looks a bit 'smiley' at the moment.

Couldn't agree more; they make it look as if it's made of plastic, and all those airbrushed highlights are dreadful. It looks as if they've recoloured it as well, which never helps as it takes out any variation in hue from the reflections, making it look even more fake. There was a low res 'spy' photo of it in Auto Express, taken from the rear in much more natural lighting, and it looks infinitely better.

I like the 3 door body, as the pics are of an entry level car I think it looks promising for the FR and CUPRA

looks like the LCR splitter will be on the to do list of many mk5 owners then :D

Here's the image I was referring to, I'm sure you've all probably seen it anyway.
