Removing ESP/TCS

Has anyone been looking into removing ESP/TCS.

I know it won't be for everyone but my specific needs are slightly different to most.

I'm hoping it's just a case of ripping out some bits and disabling these with VAGcom but fear it's not going to be that easy.

People with differentials had you enquired about this as it would allow the differential to do it's thing without interferance from the nanny electronics.

The reason I want to do this is to allow me to slide/trail brake into tight corners

See if unplugging the abs unit yields any result or removing the fuses for the abs - the abs control unit controls the esp and traction control functions.

Is it not that the TCS and ESP has control over the ABS?

I don't want to lose the ABS if I can help it as it will still be on the road and you cannot account for some of the idiots pulling out infront of you in Aberdeen[:@]:censored:

Will try this one though and see what happens

The abs pump has the main control of the tcs/esp function (in conjunction with the ECU) and all the sensors run through it, i dont believe you could loose one witout the other.
However if you disconnect ONE of the sensors that the ESP relies on then you might be able to have the ABS running but the ESP disabled.
On later models there is a brake pressure sensor which on some models is fitted to the master cylinder and if you disconnect it the ESP turns off but the ABS remains functional.

Is this the EBD?
I believe I have this....Well the brochur said i did??
So what would I have to do if I do have this to disable the ESP?
which sensor is it?

sounds like were getting somewhere with this:)

like i said - on some later models there was a brake pressure sensor (located on the master cylinder) and with this disconnected the esp would disable, leaving the abs working BUT on some models it was built directly into the abs pump.

When I mapped my car I asked if they could program the MAF sensor out of the software.
it disables the TC and ESP. They just give the MAF a fixed value, and the ecu uses the MAP sensor instead.

Also it will allow you to run a fully atmospheric BOV (I use a FMDV001-GTI)

I've got no ESP in mine but, rather through fluke than meant, my hub speed sensor went faulty and it cut my traction control and electronic stability, only side effect is no ABS, not what your wanting, but its very easy to "turn off and on" remove the plug from the speed sensor on any front hub and there you go!

I did the same on mine - in theory you could extend the one of the wires to this sensor back to the cabin, put a switch in-line and you could turn abs/esp/tcs on and off at will..

I like the sound of running a switch back to the cabin to switch off and on the Esp/TCS/ABS:drool:
Would it be possible to have said wire tied into the ESP button so when this was switched off it would also switch off the ABS too?

Just get rid of the ESP button and replace with you own; or butcher the wiring to the ESP button and link to your new extended wire from the ABS sensor..

it will disable the abs aswell if you create a sensor fault and when you switch it back the abs control unit will log a fault code and remain deactivated until the fault is erased.

So its not just that simple if you want to keep the abs running but will knock out both systems, however like i said - you will have to erase the fault before it becomes active again.

This has not been the case in my experience, plug the sensor back in, brake hard once and abs starts working again + error lights go off...

with it being a safety system the control unit might self correct itself and become active again but just log a fault or it just senses a sporadic fault and returns to normal.

I know its a dig up but I have to agree Danny, thats been my experience, on the brakes with some force, wee bit of ABS interruption then everything is back to exactly as was!
