the fluctuating temp gauge will near on 99% be the coolant temp sensor, if it hits 90 then drops to 60 visa versa, have a look between the battery/airbox and the right had side of the engine. you'll see a sensor with 4 wires connected via a block with a plastic horseshoe clip holding it in to a plastic y section of pipe,

if its black its the oem one. you'll be best replacing it with the green updated one, this should solve that issue, can be had new for a tenner on fleabay

Brilliant, thanks all of you for your input.....i'll let you know how it goes!

My temp gauge warms up fine to 90 and sits there - doesn't fluctuate..

But on colder mornings the car will beep 3 times and the flashing warning light comes up around the engine temp gauge...... The car drives fine but have I got a faulty sensor to? I get no actual engine management lights come up though.

What actual part is green when you say updated one? The sensor housing? I need to get me one of those. The bleeping and flashing light are annoying me now it's getting cold again in the mornings (good old english summertime)

Cheers

dude, i had exactly the same fault codes last week when i took my car to be mapped. The pipe on the rocker cover was split, the one known as the chocolate one and the other pipe was right under the inlet manifold i am sure its that one thats split and will be makin your car under perform. Also the too lean thingy would be in oy opinion the fuel you use. Try putting some v power or similar in and run it for a week. Report back. Put the cheque in the post . Ta

Gona give them a clean in a mo 1st as it's never been done. Anything to be careful of when doing this? Just gona wipe them down with a spare washing up sponge..

Just a quick update, still waiting to fit the Forge 007p & Coolant temp sensor, but using V Power seems to have cleared .....

17544- Fuel Trim: Bank 1 (Add): System too Lean

Full tank of that through the tank seems to have got rid of that issue.........one down!
