Which block is that Phil?

I was on the phone most of yesterday Tryon to find a place in Manchester that does a leak Down test..

So the miss fire is defo mechanical sp either rings or inlet valves on cylinder 4

when the heads off, turn it upside down, and fill the valve scallop/recess with petrol. With all the valves closed, the petrol should stay put. If it leaks away you have easily found your culprit, and it might just save you from all the hard work on the bottom end...

Awesome will probably be able to do a drop down leakage test.

014 and 015 i think are misfire counters, they reset after a single WOT run so you have to log it or watch it.

Could I wip the inlet manifold off and rocker and move the engine via the crank so the inlets on cyln 4 car closed via the cam lobes then pour a tiny amount of petrol inside?

I've spoke to John and he said awesome don't do it sadly...

This might sound daft, but did you say you had a leak between the turbo and exhaust manifold?

I ask because I had one on mine and at tickover fresh air was being drawn into the exhaust, completely screwed with the lambda sensor - ECU "corrected" the mixture and made it run like a dog with three legs...

11/12 bar is plenty of compression to make it run reasonably smoothly?

EDIT: Quick test for this is to let the car go stone cold, unplug the battery for 30 minutes to reset adaption (if the Leon ECU does this?) and then start her up - if it runs smoothly for the first 60-120 seconds then gradually falls back into a misfire it's the lambda sensor forcing a mixture change.

Hmmm....
If the valves are seating properly and the petrol stays put on the topside of the valves, you could soak it up with clean rag or blow it back out the intake plenum in the head with very low pressure air or even let it evaporate i suppose. That way you can prove the valves are ok without even taking the head off.

If it passes straight through the head and into the cylinder, then the heads gotta come off again anyway, and you can just wipe it dry with clean rag.

Worth a shot if you get toatally stumped with the logs/lambda theory.

However, Im a big believer that problems dont just appear (like the MAF theory), and thats it more likely to relate to either a fault not picked up at the time of the initial belt failure, or something has been omissed/disturbed during the rebuild itself.

Hope this comes to a conclusion soon!!

Right I'm currently on they way home from my holida...im going to recheck the wiring by hand and with a multi Meyer,I'm gonna biy new Cts and maf,log 020 and knock sensor voltage and test the seating of valves on number 4..

once I've done that if no joy il just rebuild it but considering my compression is on wear limit it should be fine

Yes a knocking noise on cold start up but my dmf is well ****ed..

I've just bought my piston rings, oil pump, oil retainer, full head gasket rebuild kit...im wondering to change the Main shells but the Crank would have to come out...
