ok cheers, all I want for christmas is a working car!

reason I ask is I'm wondering what else was moved across that could be causing a problem, like the vvt you said, maybe camshaft sensor? I'd expect a fault code though

vvt tensioner isn't gonna be cheap is it, anyone got a spare? lol

Had a quick look a moment ago otherwise id forget..

One vvt tensioner & bushers of a AMK Cylinder head (LCR)

More Than welcome to try it dude....

Hey people, hoping you could help. Not long since I've had my bam 225 lcr.. In the past 2 days every time I've filled up, it hesitates on starting & when it does start the revs go upto 2000rpm??? After a few min it's fine? Runs perfect. Only ever put v power in. Thanks

Coolant Temp Sender mate, have a search on here and see if the symptoms match yours.

Iv not got a clue about engines mate I got told that.

Cylinder 1 has oil in it that's why i have the misfire.

I got told I would need it all stripped out and get new pistons rings and valves. So I thought if im doing that I would get new rods as well.

If any can help me out on this it would be a great help.

Got someone else to get my car sorted :)

Ended up being a broken wire. I think water had got into it somewhere and it just got worse. Took 5hrs to find :(

I always had faults with the temp sensor and it was a rough idle.

Now the car is running good. Touch wood

Cheers

Car cut out yesterday and then wouldn't start for the first 3 - 4 times then it was fine.

No fault codes shown not even pending ones.

Wouldn't you normally get at least one fault code if the car won't start?

Had a new fuel pump and other bits arrive the other day just need to get hold of a VVT tensioner and hopefully things will start to look up otherwise it might be time for a new ECU

Hi mate, we had a BMW in work the other day, came In and was doing similar things to yours. He said he had changed fuel pump landaus coils etc. Ended up being some vacuum pipes which you couldn't see without takin half the engine ancillarys out n found a dodgy wire on the way also lol it now runs as new. I know a BMW and a 1.8t have nothing in common but similar symptoms could be same cause? Hope you get it sorted Sooner rather than later

Believe me any opinion is welcome, lol, thanks :)

I have my suspicions about the breather system so I'm getting to check this over and sort out a catch can etc

I also have a spare engine loom which I'll check over and fit if needs be

Dd you ever cure it? I'm having similar problems now - changed the coil pack, spark plugs an cleaned the connections. I am yet to change the whole wire loom though. Looking at the awesome gti replacement loom.

Sorry Tim just saw your post, I did yes.

Believe it or not it turned out to be the manifold. Swapped it for a relentless one and the car is fine, revs all the way to the limiter without any problems, no flat spots, flashing engine lights or misfires.

Oh right - interesting. How did you manage to diagnose this? By manifold you mean turbo manifold? (not the inlet manifold by inlet i mean the one at the at the front of the car connected to the throttle body)

I have recently changed my exhaust system for a turbo back 3" system
