Yep, infotainment update has no impact on the sos module as those are different updates. I had the sos update but had to really push the dealer to do it.
they know about it but don’t really like to do the update.
some updates don’t work and have to replace the sos module.
But there is a fix as had mine done about 2yrs ago and been fine since

You can check yourself the tpi on your car if you go into seat Erwin login pay I think it’s 8 euros for an hour and you can see all the tpi for your car, print it out and they can’t get out of that as it’s in black and white.

It's the telematics box that has to be sorted out as well as you say. You'd think they wouldn't still be shipping cars still with the bug. Perhaps they got old stock or routinely upload the wrong software to the telematics unit. @East Yorkshire Retrofits said it was the telematics box that needed changing as recall via Vag dealers. It's got a long history.

It's a problem when people don't get delivery issues fixed then sell on if it's that. That was always going to be the issue with people that make do... it will catch up with you or who the car is sold on too. Sounds like it's caught up.

100% but seat should of made it a recall but they didn’t so they got away with not fixing all the issues and now out of warranty you have to pay them to fix issues that they should of fixed!

The problem went across the whole group, VW, Skoda and Seat / Cupra. They were slow to fix the latter. Those issues and mib3 at launch was why they had a change in Vag management since poor QA had dented the reputation. They probably didn't want to draw attention by a recall, but boards were full of that issue for a couple of years from 2020. There were many theories about why the SOS was popping, specific roads, radio interference. Some people just got rid of the cars and it's those sold on but not fixed during the phase when they were being fixed for free will be the issue if dealers try to charge for it.

I just bought a Seat Leon FR TSI EVO 1.0L 2021 plate (MK4?) on Saturday.

I'm also experiencing pops and clicks while driving from day one, both on radio and playing music via android.

Though today, while driving someone new, on the motorway I noticed my location on Waze hadn't changed and the actual car location wasn't even on the road. Found a safe place to stop. I tried Google maps, same problem except it as warping forward and back to different spots.

Eventually I had to just disable the Bluetooth connection on and phone and just use my phone directly for directions as I was running very late from trying to fix the issue.

The SOS light also turned on my dash during all this. Luckily on my way back home after having the car off for some time, the SOS issue resolved itself. After getting home I tested the Android Play link again and it was fine though I'm very hesitant testing for longer journeys especially to new places.

I do (I think) have the latest software, A896 that was performed over the air using my home wifi. Otherwise, it was previously 1804.

I will try to use the car in max privacy mode to see if it stops the SOS warning issues after seeing if it happens a 2nd time. Fingers crossed it doesn't

Effected all the Vag 2020-22 cars more or less. Popping on the SOS. Many theories but just defective software / firmware. Vag sorted out VW first, Skoda next Seat / Cupra last.

Basically those cars should have been called in and fixed. The make do people who didn't get it fixed, sell on the cars and nodoubt still turn up as secondhand unless the issue returns via some technical screw up.

Given the date of your navigation database you haven't been having over the air updates so that puts the car in the alloted problem slot. But it's the telematics box your dealer has to work on. Pass on good will payments since it was all free if the owner had got it sorted out then.

Good to know and thanks for the information. I'm I correct that my only option now is to take this car to the SEAT dealer to fix? Yeah the navigation database issue makes sense as it really didn't know where I was on the road until I disabled the Bluetooth to just only use the phone for GPS and navigation. I'll see about quizzing the staff at a local SEAT dealership especially if its not something I can resolve myself.

The previously owners weren't very tech-savvy and drove it very lightly, 14k miles senior couple.

After more digging the A896 a 2nd phase update step to then becoming 1896. I've got the voice control function back today after an update.

We know how to read the YY.MM in those files so can find which of the brands have published the best uptodate maps. Skoda at the minute. Same file if they released it. Goes straight in.... after a delay....

With connected services the maps are updated monthly which you pay for. Currently no way to update the radio logos offline so you are stuck with the ones the car came with.

? this car is quiet the rabbit hole. Hmmm perhaps ill stick to having the GPS/navigation via the phone only and not via full link andriod on the car display. Though I'm intrigued too if there is a conflict between the phone and car, especially if the car has a dated navigation data base like mine.

Basically the GPS plot of where the car was on both the phone and the cars own position both wandered off the road least in the early days. As for the cars navigation it's suppose to be tethered to the digital road. It looked like the cars GPS was feeding the phone when reported.

Basically the early maps on the system didn't work too well. I didn't think they could in car correct via a map update but they did. The Here Maps files in the early release of mib3 had been miss processed. You'd put a street number in and they took you off road in some circumstances. They were using postcode centroids so it appeared to navigate to. Good for market research analysis but not for navigation. Now they have picked up the correct file that has the point on the road, not in the field. That was about three years ago.

Edit. They had postcode centroids in which took you off map rather than to the closest point on the road, you you were expected to go offroad to get there.

They have now identified it needs a new steering wheel and steering wheel clock spring. They are confident thay this will stop the infotainment popping and all the SOS errors.

Anyone had this before and think it will work?

It seems the SOS issue persists from 2020... thought it had been sorted out. Feel vindicated in saying don't do your own DIY with firmware updates on that platform. That thread shows the issue came up after and mentions steering wheel changing. Steering wheel is also a variable as well as the telematics box.

The MQB Evo platform was a can of worms and pack of cards to change. Have to see how @Syphon gets on with his new car. Where I feel you take out the connect services contract to keep the updates going then deal with any issues as they arise. Some people take out the extended warranty to protect themselves from future big bill expenses. You wouldn't think a firmware update to the infotainment unit would land you into issues. That's the question of when you draw the line at updates. No contract beyond the free ones and no DIY may be cheaper than connect services alone that could land you into a bill if not covered by warranty.

Thanks for sharing that thread, does seem to be mentioning the steering wheel and Telematics as another potential fix which I'll keep in my back pocket if this doesn't work.

Luckily im still in the 60 day warranty, and I also purchased a 2 year autocare warranty which will keep me covered
