Yeah mine usually gets off as soon I pulled the dipstick up so I ended ziptie-ing it to the engine to keep it in place. :)

I've heard about that happening - it might be the aftermarket ones that do that, as the dipstick doesn't fit as flush in the tube as it did in the old one. If yours works fine with a zip tie, I won't have to worry - had nightmares about it popping off on a long drive and the oil dumping all over the engine bay...

Been putting this one off for far too long. Such a stupidly easy job to do that I don't know why I haven't done it already.

Looking at the old dipstick, I'm thinking I might have an idea where the oil coating my transmission might have been coming from... It's absolutely caked in the stuff.

There's supposed to be a tab on this bit, which is the bit that broke off last year. When you zoom in on it though, you can see that it's cracked too...

Engine was still warm when I put the replacement in, but put that in a mug of boiling water first as I've heard they can pull out when you pull the dipstick out. We'll see if it works long term.

last time i did a Deal to get free postage i bought one of them as a backup its pretty solid and probably made in chi-na anyway, the rubber ring on the engine cover is there to help the dip stick sometimes they go missing https://www.aliexpress.com/item/100....order_list.order_list_main.45.529e18021tnpco

Car is finally back from Badger5, new turbo, FMIC, coilovers, tyres, air intake, injectors, fuel pump, poly bushing, engine mounts etc... Feels the bizniz, loving the car again!

Looking for a Canchecked gauge MFD 32 if anyone has any experience? Wondering if the LHD version still fits into the driver's side middle vent of a RHD. (Worse case, maybe I'll have to use the passenger side middle vent, would rather not though)

For a stage 2, LCR over 20 years old, you probably need this...

The local garage who recently replaced the clutch on my Ibiza, are happy to have my boy up for a test drive & look into the fkd up braking system I was left with. The clutch only cost £540, & they did a fab job, so after the last cowboy, I'm hopeful it can't get any worse 🤘
Not sure when I'll take him, but they're happy any time & once I get another pay packet in (from my new job), & I get no other financial surprises, my beloved boy may start living again 🤞😎

Took my gear knob off. Can this leather gaitor be removed from the plastic surround? It’s difficult to tell if the plastic surround is 2 pieces that can be separated and I really don’t want to break it.

I might have one in my shed that you can have but I’m in middle of North Sea until 14th!!!
Not sure if the 2 locating tabs are still intact though

Was trying to work out when I last washed my car and realised it was before I bought a bonnet and door from Thai. That was October 2023. Not sure I should really be admitting that here...

Made the most of a visit to the parents and make use of their driveway and hoses. Both bumpers need a respray, but at least it's clean now - might get a few extra mpg now...

Always satisfying spraying water around the rear lights - the amount of crud that comes out never ceases to amaze me. Gave the door seals a good clean too. Will clean the sides of the windscreen out when I get home - I know they're full of decomposed leaves.

Sore shoulders tomorrow...

I painted a full set of door handles and barrel covers. This project was started about a year ago and I finally got round to finishing it off.

Handles were sanded, primed followed by base coat and 2k clear coat. I then wet sanded the orange peel and polished. Quite pleased with the results given I don’t have any prior experience at paint.

Hopefully it’ll be a durable finish.

Now for the sting in the tail - when swapping old for new door handles I’ve loosened the lock ring carriers too much on both the front doors and the lock ring has dropped into the door cavity. Looks like I’m in for a full door strip x2!!

i need to do this too, my drivers door and rear drivers side door handles are badly faded with basically all the laquer off them, your look really good, i might do them on the car though so as to not have that problem you describe as ive just done all the door seals and dont want to disturb them if i dont need to.

Beautiful. You've done a really good job there. That's the best colour Leon - probably because I've got happy memories of my dad's gunmetal grey 200SX.

I've always found the front doors easier to strip than the rears. It's all a faff though, just like everything always is. Be sure to remove any rust and grease the lockring before you put it all back on if you haven't done it already so it doesn't seize. Gives me the warm fuzzies putting things back together better than from factory.

Yeah, it’s frustrating that I loosened the lock carrier screws too much, but I’m glad I did all the paintwork off the car enabling me to work in the garden/garage at my own pace.

12 turns and no more for the torx screw 😄

What 2k lacquer did you use by the way? Normal cans of the stuff that are just labelled as 2k but aren't really always crack for me after 12 months.

Should also be noted that 2k Lacquers containing isocyanates are EXTREMELY toxic. You really don't want to be spraying it without a professional grade positive pressure mask.

12 turns!! I got up to over 20!!😂 mainly because I could not get the barrels/blanks out at 12 turns.
This is the paint. It has the bit at the bottom of the can to mix the paint with the hardener and then gives you about 8 hours to use.

Good call. I think I violated health and safety, though all spraying was done outdoors in the back garden.
