& re-reading your post those aren't the latest maps BTW 26/27 release 2610 are

Evident mib helper hasn't been updated

Thank you, I've downloaded the latest update from the given link. I then made a backup of my original Seat map SD card (or better: the genuine card with the CID but in the meantime updated map material over the years) and extracted it onto a fresh 3rd party SD card (correctly formatted, correct cluster size). It did NOT work, the card was rejected. So apparently the "NoCID" patch I applied when updating my software train in the MIB2 to fix the clock bug did not really work and I still need the original card.
I then deleted the "map" folder on the genuine card, unpacked the contents of the latest and greatest update et voila: Everything worked and I now have the latest map pack.

Thank you!

I still have a couple of questions if I may:

* Is the overall.nds tied to my VID/Serial of the unit or is it version specific? What's in the file?
* For applying the latest update, I did not need to copy over the overall.nds file from the last state of the genuine card, just used the one which got unzipped from the downloaded archive. Is that working because of the card being genuine and the CID serial number is used? The overall.nds file I had on my genuine card is probably long gone anyway during the various version updates. I never had to backup/restore that overall.nds file when doing an update so far. My Seat Alhambra is from 2016, so long before that lifelong FEC where applied if I understood correctly? All I did was copying over the maps folder all this years.
* If my genuine card is accepted, why does the overall.nds then matter at all?
* I didn't need to add any new FEC, so this is not always necessary? It seems to be a part many are struggling with according to this thread?
* I just checked my FECs, I don't seem to have the lifelong FEC 073000EE active nor available in the info menu I get when I press menu for 10+ seconds.
* In these yearly updates, is this just the map data or is there also a navigation software update included? Any functional changes?
* Where do I see the separate version of the navigation software if there's any? Are there any change logs of the software version?
* If software versions of the navigation system are NOT part of the map updates, where do I find those? Is it worth updating for my old car or won't recent version run on it anyhow?

Its linked to the original maps release release put in the unit. Say 2016/17 then any 2016/16 overall.nds file would work. Previously we had to find these releases which started to get tricky. Hence the overall solution of that one file.

Could be that the modification did work. Normally it doesn't work like that unless you were fortunate to have one of the 2019 units.

* If my genuine card is accepted, why does the overall.nds then matter at all?

Ditto above

* I didn't need to add any new FEC, so this is not always necessary? It seems to be a part many are struggling with according to this thread?

No the workaround creates the FeC that wasn't known originally. Hence the scan error that you get.

* I just checked my FECs, I don't seem to have the lifelong FEC 073000EE active nor available in the info menu I get when I press menu for 10+ seconds.

You will have something there. A Hex table can be used to work it out as I did with the mib2 high.

* In these yearly updates, is this just the map data or is there also a navigation software update included? Any functional changes?

That's the map update. The software is the firmware and that doesn't need updating for the map update to work.

* Where do I see the separate version of the navigation software if there's any? Are there any change logs of the software version?

As above

* If software versions of the navigation system are NOT part of the map updates, where do I find those? Is it worth updating for my old car or won't recent version run on it anyhow?

As above

TMC UK Services mib2 standard and high

Just a note to say those that took steps to gain TMC services in the UK after Trafficmaster stopped transmitting the data three years ago (Vag provider and others) using the Inrix alternative provider... all has been good for more than three years with the Inrix service... however all good things come to an end, and this seems to be one of them.

Looking decidedly finished although there doesn't appear to be much mention of it online. The service was used by Jaguar Landrover and others. So it appears no more annotated delays marked up on your built in mib2 mapping system and alternative route, but if you didn't take steps to receive Inrix services, no change to how it's been.... that you have not been getting them. ;)
Following up on this now I am back in the UK. I can see that the RDS data groups that carry the TMC service are gone from both Wrotham and Dover Classic FM transmitters. They have separate feeds, so a fault at the transmitter sites looks unlikely. I guess the service has been withdrawn. I will try to find out more on Monday.

The all important workaround is here

Workaround

Using a PC or a MAC ?

PC: 7 Zip is the preferred VW tool, other unzip tool including those built into Windows, can cause difficulties.

7 zip can be obtained from

https://www.7-zip.org/download.html

MAC: VW instructions

"ATTENTION

If the map update is performed using the Apple® OS X operating system you may find that
Discover Media does not recognise the map material or displays it incorrectly. This is due to
a lack of compatibility between the “7 zip” program and the OS-X operating system. In
addition, the OS-X operating system has a tendency to create hidden additional files on
external data media. We therefore recommend that OS X users use the “Keka” unzipping
program. We also recommend using the “CleanMyDrive” program to remove any hidden files."

If a MAC is used CleanMyDrive is run against the SD card after the maps are copied across to the SD card.

Having identified which unzipping tool is required and special Mac SD card cleaning required... free to proceed.

Steps:

  1. Download the latest standard MIB2 maps
  2. on the infotainment go to settings, safely remove, sd1 card
  3. remove sd1 card from glove box slot
  4. long press on the on / off to reboot it a couple of times
  5. insert sd card in to computer
  6. copy and paste all contents to a directory on your computer
  7. Delete the contents of the SD card, (don't forget to push the card lock mechanism to off) (ditto in a MAC) (don't do a reformat of the card)
  8. Copy the new downloaded map version to the SD card (after unzipping it)
  9. Replace /maps/EEC/EEC_WLD/OVERALL.NDS on the SD CARD with the one from the original SD card
  10. eject the sd card (on a MAC run CleanMyDrive on the SD card - then eject), click to lock
  11. Inserted the card into the card 1 slot in glove box whilst infotainment is off
  12. power on and go to navigation
The unit should then boot up into navigation. Note it does take a little longer first time round. If it refuses to boot up, press the volume button forcing a reboot, hold down until the unit reboots. If this fails it will be issues on the overall.nds file / copy issues. Revisit the process. Failing this restore the back up.

You will also need to pick up any POIs that you show on the screen since these will be dropped after a map update. Petrol stations, parking location etc.

Do not format the card in anything other than Fat32. The unit runs QNX so will not correctly see the SD card if it is not in Fat32 / cluster size gets tinkered with in a reformat. The CID is not deleted in a format that is outside of the area that can be addressed but reformatting has been known to corrupt the card.

If you do lose the NDF file then it's in the resource of how to sort it out. Read that under lost and stolen section:

It's this file attached is the fix all
