Boost Gauge - How to get vacuum hose into car?

I know this has been asked before and I've found some vague pictures. But I just had a look for the grommit that goes from the engine bay into the car and can't really find it!

I can see some wires going into the car downwards just behind the passenger-side suspension strut but even if that's the right place, theres a carpet-type covered vertical bit of trim near the top of the engine bay and a plastic horizontal bit going over that so I can't see how I can get the hose through without drilling a hole. The plastic bit sits over the lower part of the windscreen and doesn't look like it can be removed without at least removing the wings first

Has anyone got some better pics of how to do this? :)

So is the grommet on the carpet-covered vertical bit as well as the metal firewall?

If anyone has pics I would really appreciate them!

Ok I popped out the 2 rubber stops on the passenger side of the car in the firewall and just behind the suspension strut and have it plumbed in now.

Just got the wiring to do now so I can actually see the thing :) Need to double check headlight switch wiring diagrams..

I put it through that side too. Ran it from the IC pipework on the drivers side, along the back of the bay, through those grommets on the passenger side, behind the dash inside the car and to the drivers side. Fair old way of doing it but it works.

Tried looking on drivers side but couldn't be bothered. SO much easier to do it passenger side. :D

It was fairly easy once I got through those holes. My vacuum hose is T-pieced off the top of my recirc valve, and just lays behind the air box, through one hole, through the next, into the glove box behind the fireproofing, down through one of the holes in the bottom. along and up into the centre console.

I did the same as Damoegan and dremelled a hole in a blank DIN panel and stuck it beneath the stereo. Looks pretty good I think :)

I'm going to use these wires to wire it in (someone else's pics):

Will get some pics up when I'm done (hopefully tomorrow :))

Glad someone asked this cos i was just about to!
I really dont want to use the passeneger side hole, go all the way across the bay and back across the dash. Thought the bonnet catch hole looks like a plan. Did you just remove the wipers and the plastic panel underneath to route it through ?
Ive fitted the gauge in one a of the vent holes with a carbon panel and it looks mega just need to get it plumbed and wired in now

Also can i just use the +12v from the dimmer for the OEM gauges ? then i can dim it like the others.

Thanks for the info :D

Need an ID-ten-T form
I went through the grommet on the left, thats also where most people put the mains for an amp through. Was a bit hard as there was already 0AWG wire for my amp there. Then ran it behind the glove box and into the centre console.

P.S Putting gauges on you A pillar is a MOT fail.

Anyone know which wires to connect the '12v Lighting' and '12v Ignition Switch' wires to?

I tried using the 2 wires in the above pics, and one way round it lights up and dims, but only when headlights are on. When they are off, I can't see the gauge.

The other way round, it was just on constantly, even with the key removed from the ignition.

I really want it to be lit up whenever the ignition is on. Dimming would be nice, but not too fussed.

I took my power off the head unit loom. I cut the loom and added new connectors then made a sort of 'V' connection out of some wire with 3 connectors on it (If that makes any sens?) and then added a connector onto the end of the wire that is attatched to the boost gauge. That way you have all 3 wires right nect to each other and it gives you, constant live, switched live and ground.

Hope this helps mate.

Well I got it in:

Only got 2 of the 3 wires connected atm so it just lights up with the ignition. Haven't had a chance to boost it too much yet but the needle goes up to somewhere around 12 oclock so the numbers look about right :)

 Nice one mate. Standard boost should be about 10psi.

Seems like I'm setting a trend now ;)
