Updates...

A while back I decided to tint my side repeaters - this was the very first time I had ever used tinting spray and since I wanted my own 'grade' of tint it seemed like a good idea, overall things went very well

Last layer of lacquer drying (got tint spray on the bedroom floor carpet too - Not enough newspaper layed down... Whoops)!

And back on the car - Took a couple of hours and cost virtually nothing as I already had some spare lacquer kicking about.

The rusty rear hubs caught my attention next. After fitting my freshly powdercoated LCR alloys this area was letting the car down so out came the trusty Hammerite again.

The rear dust guards also got some treatment.

With the wheels back on I removed the jack to then notice the rear sills had decided to fold in on themselves (and after a quick search on the forum i soon discovered this is a common problem with Leons) Anyway I bent them back into shape using a pair of pliers before adding some more Hammerite to prevent any rust coming through over the winter months. Because of the latter I decided to order some TT jacking points from Awesome to prevent this from happening again.

Thanks for reading. :)

Its actually silver hammerite - I hunted high and low for some dark grey/Graphite coloured metal paint but I couldn't source any so went with the standard silver.

Recently I took delivery of this:

EBCgoodies.jpg

The box contained everything i needed from Badger5 to get my 312mm front brake upgrade sorted.

Of course the new carriers had to be painted to match my original calipers - 3 coats of the red stuff sorted this.

After a couple of hours or so at JabbaSport everything was fitted and I went away happy.

I went for:
312mm plain Ebc disks
Ebc yellow stuff front pads

I really wanted the Ultimax disks and DS2500 pads but I simple couldn't afford it after paying £90 each for the bigger caliper carriers.

Well after covering about 400 miles since the new setup was fitted im actaully not enjoying things. My steering wheel is viberating/shaking violently while braking (the problem I had before when I still had the 288mm brakes fitted).
At the time I put this down to warped disks which is why i went for the upgrade in the first place! I still haven't got to the bottom of the problem and there could be a number of underlying factors which could be causing this but I do plan to return to Jabba in just under two weeks to have the entire braking system checked and checked again.

In the mean time I snapped these up from ebay for a very decent price

OctaviaVRSrearcalipers.jpg

256mm rear brakes of a 2004 Octavia VRS. I cannot for the life of me get the old disks and pads off the caliper (It may be very simple but I am not great with mechanics and dont want to damage anything). The bleed nipples look in very good condition so overall i am very pleased with the purchese.

I plan brand new Ebc disks and red stuff pads (the dont make yellow for the 256mm rears) :censored:

With the old disks/pads still fitted to the caliper I was under the impression this would make re-painting them difficult but after a quick clean up with a wire brush and a few old rags I was ready to apply the first coat of red Hammerite.

Not too bad for a first coat considering it is covering the older green paint - I reckon between three to four coats should provide a nice finish.
For the time being I will now get on to ordering the correct size dustguards of a LCR.

Thanks for reading :)
Comments good or bad welcome as always.

The calipers were finished some time ago leaving them looking as above really.

Ideally i needed new disks and pads so These were ordered from POTN and literally a day later all the required items were delivered.

In the mean time I bought this of a mate from work - Bit of an impulse buy to be honest my oem cd player is not that great so at the time I thought why not!
DSCF4845.jpg

Cant see this being fitted till after christmas as im currently low on funds.:(

Within the last two weeks or so the car went back to JabbaSport to have the 256mm rears fitted - It turned out to be more of a mission as I first thought as the brakes needed to be fully cleaned up and prep'd before the new disks and pads could be fitted - Below is a pic of the dust guards having the 'lip' cut off (I didn't find the time to get the larger LCR dustguards) so this was the best and most cost effective soloution to the problem.
DSCF4974.jpg

Overall so far I have just generally been bedding the ne brakes in but combined with the 312's up front the car now stops on demand and if I really push the pedal hard the car reacts much quicker then it previously did.
The only annoying thing is the fact that Jabba couldn't get to the bottom of the brake judder / steering vibration problem. The front disks are not warped and although I created a thread on the forum a while ago stating the problem in more detail I can not find the solution and the problem still persists! Without throwing stupid amounts of money at the car I will simply have to live with the problem for the time being

(Pics of 256mm rears to follow when the car is less dirty).;)

Did you need new hoses for the rears after all? I've just bought a full 312mm front and 256mm rear set up from a 2001 S3. All virtually new and only paid £180 the lot.

Deal of the century or what?

Anyone else know?

Well about time some updates!

Many weeks ago now (well last year now)! I had my Octavia VRs vented rear brakes fitted and below are some pics of them looking well still quite small to be honest - didn't manage to get the dust guards in time before they were fitted but these will maybe be sourced on a rainy day.

Overall they are pretty damn good now there fully bed in - Just got to get the 312's up front to play nice and i'll have some pretty strong stopping power.

With money being tight I have generally been keeping the car as clean as possible while the mods are few and far between.

Update 09/02/2011.

After giving it some thought I decided to go for some spacers as im sick of the wheels being tucked inside the arches. It was either 10 or 15mm in the end i compromised on 12mm H&R (pricey I know but hopefully very good quality as well) These will be getting fitted asap however there is a problem to overcome first..

DSCF5066.jpg

Box. :)

DSCF5069.jpg

Spacers. :D

DSCF5067.jpg

Erm... not what I ordered.

Anyway the issue has hopefully been sorted and 'wheel bolts' are now on the way to me direct from H&R.

Pics and review to follow once fitted.
