Hi all,

Just noticed Halfords brand oil (5W/30 fully synthetic, VW/AUDI Spec):

QUOTE: "Halfords 5W30 VW/Audi Fully Synthetic 2 Litre Oil:
Meets the requirements of VW/Audi 504.00 and 507.00 Long Life Service."

£19.99 for 2 litres (or £17.99 for 2litres if you reserve and collect on-line)

See: http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/...828_crumb_33958-53252_parentcategoryrn_133828

Would that be okay to use ?

(Actually works out at £17.99 if you reserve it on-line and pick up at store, because you get a 10% discount!)

Regards,
Andy

Just been into Halfords and (of course) they say their oil (above) is perfectly suited to my Leon Cupra. Wasn't sure if this was a matter of "of course they'd say that!", or whether it actually holds true ?

Any thoughts ?

Andy

I believe its made by comma oils so should meet the required spec but as chris said one grade of oil can vary in its viscosity or something along them lines. End of the day its your car and your choice, personally id stick to edge but thats my choice as id like to think it should last as VAG expect well into the 100,000 miles bracket so im happy to spend extra.

Cheers Chris!. So when the oil level is on the lowest mark on the criss-cross of the dipstick, then how many litres will she take from there to top up ?

Andy

Best way as said already is to add small amounts to fine tune the oil level. I add roughly a can of pop amount of oil when topping up. Then keep checking, don't get too anal about it though. It doesnt need to be bang on, just make sure its not overfilled and underfilled - anything inbetween is fine.

Remember oil expands when warm so don't check the oil cold, but leave for at least 10mins after switching off engine so the oil can drain back to sump.

Good luck :)
