Just thought i'd post some pics of my baffled sump that might be interesting for the more track oriantated crowd on here..

With the track day season aproaching, I needed to get the oil surge and breathing probelms sorted, With this and a decent catch tank, this should lay my mind at rest a bit.. :)

Well that looks interesting to say the least. How often are you planning to split the sump from the block to check that the flaps/wire haven't parted company?, & surely the flaps will only work one way:confused:

Looks like good workmanship though

The flap are only meant to work one way, they mirror each other from side to side to keep the oil in the central section.. They move nice and freely too.

The wire looks to the good quality stainless lockwire, which wont break in a hurry, even if they do, touch wood, the gauze stop any fragments going anywhere..

interesting they have changed the flaps.............. as previous rubber ones have been known to detach and have also been known to block the oil pump pickup and wright off an engine/turbo

Otherwise, the baffle design is a copy of my original Seat sport sump (without skid plate or drain fitting)

ProAlloy sold direct to you yea?

I work for J-tech Automotive, and spoke to them over the phone through them. I just bought the sumps (we had a few done) and posted them up and they were back within the week..

Nice, should give a bit of piece of mind kinds wished I'd got round to fitting all the rest of the stuff to mine before it died... mine looked like more lean failiure than oil related mind.

Can I ask a silly question?

Why is there need for flaps? surely you could control oil flow trough small permanent holes in the baffles (if needed), that way the oil can still circulate via the pump, but still stop the surge whilst cornering

Nothing is going to make them break? their failry isolated.. As a sort of measure there will be a magnetic drain plug,

Actaul hinges may be the final solution however..

continuous flapping?

16v baffled sumps I get (steel) have hinged flaps, not like your pictures.
ProAlloy have changed from rubber flaps for some reason, but the hinge setup they've ended up with is'nt what I would expect (or want)

So rubber ones come off, lockwire isn't up to the job, whats an alterternative? hinges as i mentioned previous, properly tigged in..

Jabba can be as pissed off as the want to be, but paying the extra money just to get it through them is a load of crap..

couldnt you use something like. key ring hoops small ones. not ideal but better than locking wire
