trap doors via hinges is what I see elsewhere.. work fine and reliably.
 
Bill, u had any problems with the rubbers coming off on the seat sport ones or just the pro alloy ones?

mines been fine, and no reports from any one who had a SEAT Sport one off me. Only one I know of if my old Golf which had Jabba/ProAlloy one - looked like the same rubber flaps as seat sport one, but maybe one was'nt pushed in fully or something.
 
Valid arguement I agree.. However, (if fitted correctly) is it going to come off? - its good quality stainess lockwire, in an isolated area, fitted so that it not tight so it wont rub anywhere?.. Even in the very rare chance it would come off/break the gauze on the oil pickup would eliminate it from being picked up..

As mentioned previously, very small keyring loops, might well be an option...
