Hi guys, I am looking at buying an 18 inch set of BBS CH deep dish reps for my Mk2 Cupra.

The guy I am buying them off says to put 8 inch wide rims on the front and 9 inch wide on the rears. I will be reusing my 225/40/18 tyres from my standard Cupra wheels.

But I wreckon 8 inch wide all round with maybe a set of 10mm hubcentric wheel spacers on all corners as well.

What do you guys recommend?

UPDATE:

I got the rims yesterday, 18x9 inch on rear and 18x8 inch on front. Had 3 mates plus myself in car last night and no scrubbing or rubbing :)

you will be fine with 8inch all round. The standard wheels are 7.5inch so your adding 0.5inch to each wheel. If you add the 10mm spacer you'll have pushed the wheel edge out about 16mm towards the arch lip. Thats if the offset is same as standard wheels. If the offsets less than standard then the wheel will be out even further.

I think thats how it works.??!?!?!

Best to try the wheels first and get spacers later if needed.

Davey, im jealous...lol will you be keeping your standard rims? What colour are the CH's you're looking at? I fancy new rims too but performance definately has to be next on the list!

Hey David,

Yeah mate, definatley get her remapped and the DPF out. Did you get the Quick Shift yet?

They are bright silver I think they will look great against the yellow paint, i'm going to keep the standard cupra rims for winter driving and use the BBS this time of year until september/october. They are £480 with my tyres fitted to them and balanced.

Get them bought, that is a good price, im trying to remember how much the rims were for my mini without tyres and they are only 13inch! Actually maybe they were a good bit cheaper, around £250 mark maybe... Where you getting the BBS from? Good choice on the winter wheels, thats what i would do with my rims if i were to get a new set, you will need to sort yourself with a set of winter tyres now too lol money, money and more money!

not even ordered the quickshift yet but when it arrives you will be the first to know lol so i can get it fitted...! :p

on a side note, tailed a black scooby out coleraine direction on Sunday... :headhurt: it was depressing how much lag and lack of power i had compared to that beast! :( lol makes me want to change to a petrol even more than after i drove your car!

No bother mate, I will fit the Quick Shift for you when you get it.

Aw sure think of the fuel economy the Scooby is getting and if he pushes it too hard he risks melting a piston, they dont call them Chocolate Engines for nothing :p

What would be the primary reason to have wider wheels on the back? For aesthetics?
As those wont be the drive wheels, like on the BMW's.

On our SEATs, being front wheel drive, wider wheels on the front would probably be more practical.
Greater grip (tyre surface area in contact with the tarmac) when applying the power.

Saying that, for simplicity, keeping the same width all round probably works out better. :)

Yes its purely for asthetics, the alloy wheel dealer wreckons 9 inch on the rear and 8 inch on the front to fill out the asthetics

Ah cool, wasn't sure the reason behind it (original suggestion to go wider at the rear). ;)

Agree with the above, Spacers on the rear will push the wheels out closer to the arch bodywork, which will also look more filled too. Further down the line, this will work out cheaper than having to replace wider tyres (on the rear) if you had gone down that route.

They look great and I could be tempted to get a set for mine after seeing how good they look on your car[B)]

Thanks for the comments guys,

Carr20vt,

I got them from autoalloys.com the BBS aint on their website but give them a call and ask for Paul, tell him I sent ya lol, they will post to anywhere in the UK, rims alone cost £420 not £480 lol. Just reuse your 18inch tyres or price a wheel and tyre package deal if you want.

Thanks tommy your white cupra is very tidy :)

Steve, the 9 inch wide rears are a fair old weight but the fronts with tyres on are near OEM Cupra rim plus tyre weight.

As for the quality, they seem fine and the paint seems good but time will be the greatest teller of their longevity.

Carr20vt,

They would look good on a touran mate.
