bit of of bad new really..

as Some of you may now my LCR was Smoking blue smoke over the last few weeks anyway it stopped but i then got a missfire on Cylinder 2 so i changed the coilpack and the miss firer was still there..

Then when i came to stop i could hear a blaten Loud Tapping noise when i rev it Seems it gets louder and quicker with the RPM,,

Spoke to john seems i could have a knackered Exhaust valve...

Got post a video of it up in a minute...bad times

done a compression test? do that before any conclusion! if an exhaust valve has gone it'd be popping out the exhaust as it'll still be burning mixture in the exhaust, it will still comress, slightly so will burn.

It doesnt pop all the time..hardly tbh just drives like a normal car but with a tapping noise been told off loads of people that the tapping noise can be the lifters..

Eg the Oil pump Or pick up is knackered...

so the tapping is constant? could have been some **** in the oil causing a sticky lifter. is it constantly mis-ing? that would indecate a combustion problem/chamber issue.

Nope it dosnt miss only when at say 3krpm when boost is just peaking driving normal is super...But i put the coil in number 2 not 3 lol...

The tapping noise is constant and gets quicker as the RPM speeds up...and sounds like it just coming from just under the rocker cover...

On the LCR can you test the Oil pressure via vag com?

I dont really know about vag com, i'm still learning.


If its mising when coming on boost only that rules out valves :) i'd chuck a wynns hyrdaulic lifter treatment(from halfords, tried it myself, the only stuff that works!) in and then change the oil anout 100 miles later.

Righto Ive took the Sump off which was really straight forward Was easyer than the ibiza Sump Yet there the same...

Anyway I didnt notice much on the pick up as i was looking for too much tbh...So a quick phone call to john and the Mesh on the retained was clogged full of sludge And slim...Ive sent john a picture of it as i cant up load it on my computer as its being gay but you can soon see on the dark parts were i scrapped it back a little bit

TBH, ive seen far worse on customers cars. how was the oil? how old? what type? give that a blast through with brake cleaner and make sure its dry before you put it back.

did you flick the ign on for a sec or two then re dip it? it sounds like hydrolic tappets dont get me wrong i dont no if these cars run them? but thats what my rs use to do wen the hydrolic tappets use to go dry
