"nankang are really good cheap tyres"

i can also second that too, had nankangs on a 306 rallye and were very good.

As others have said I'd go with the Kuhmo's. I'm on my second set of Kumho Ecsta's for my LC. £69.64 per corner fitted and balanced at Micheldever Tyres. Got 22,000 miles out of the previous set, and although I'm not pushing them hard that often, they seem to give good grip, acceptable noise and ride for a fair price compared with those that often get recommended on here.

Cheers!, yep it's certainly looking like Kumho Ecstas, Hankook Ventus (or V12 evo) or Falken 452. I'll check them out, see what's available when i ring around.

Best Regards,
Andy

Hi,

I'm sure this has been asked before so apologies in advance !.

My 2 front tyres are on 2mm and 2.5mm, so they're going to have to be replaced within the next month or so.

What's the best budget tyre out there ?. Are Nexxen / Lasso? any good ?

Also, what tread types are best ? arrowhead tread (http://www.ctyres.co.uk/product/pic/falken_fk451.gif) or standard ?. I was told that arrowhead tread can sometimes cause more road noise and wear down quicker, but not sure how true that is !

I have this type of tread on all 4 wheels (http://www.ctyres.co.uk/product/pic/falken_fk451.gif). So does this mean i need to get this type of tread again for the front (law) ?

I was once told you could have standard tread on the front and arrow type tread on the rear, but not the other way round. Then the MOT garage told me this was complete rubbish and as long as the same tread was on each axle, it didn't matter !

Best Regards,
Andy

So you have a really good handling powerful car yet skimp on what actually keeps it on the road :ban:

edit:

Should have read first couple post.

Would go for the nankangs

i would like to add that you should change tyres at 3mm seriously after 3mm the grip curve severely goes down. especially in wet.

Yep James, the tyres are getting changed very shortly. I don't go for cheap and nasty tyres, there are lots of recommendations for decent tyres such as Hankook, Kumho, Falken etc on here and i'd rather buy them than pay a fortune for Goodyear etc.

Decent budget tyres have kept me on the road for 18 years without any problems at all!.....that alone speaks volumes !

I used to have Hankook ventus sports on my astra coupe. Was a decent tyre but i paid £120 (low profile 18's) each for them they did do a damn good job!

Yeah, they sound a good tyre!.

So...... i have had recommendations on:

1) Falken 452
2) Hankook Ventus
3) Hankook V12 EVO
4) Kumho Ecstas
5) Nankang NS2

I'm gonna have to start ringing around shortly, so what order of preference would those tyres go in if i had to choose between them ?

They will be going on a Leon Cupra (not R)

Andy

Ah come on Chris, spill the beans!, were these second hands off ebay ?? hmmm.

regards,
Andy

nope not off ebay, they are second hand, BUT only have a couple of weeks use...£10 a tyre for goodyear eagle F1's

if u have a look at Volvo police cars you will notice this is what they run on...when a police car gets a puncture all 4 tyres have to be changed, so there are 3 undamaged tyres all pretty much brand new

buy them (if you know where to get them as i do) then either fix the punctured one or wait till you get another 3 which isnt too long where i get them

It's a small fortune when you're gonna get 4 !!! and have just forked out £1000 for alternator, cam belt, 80k service, water pump, wipers, mot, suspension spring, cv boot.

Budget have done me fine for 18 years and that's what i'm gonna stick with me thinks :)

Yep go for the Kumho Ecstas i have these, all four for £200 fitted (18's) very happy if you cant afford the top brands you have no other option other than go for the middle brands, another thing you can do is put the tyre brand you are thinking about in to google and look for reviews, this is what i did together with asking on here.

Andy

They've done a long term test on the Falken FK452 (on the left hand side of the page linked), granted it's on a 350Z which is a bit of a different proposition to a Cupra but a bit more comprehensive than the user reviews.
