Another vote for Kumho Ecstas here - got them on all round on my LCR, think they were 70 quid a pop

I recently changed all 4 (were budget upfront & original Michellins on rear) to Toyo Proxes, a bit more than budget at £95 ea fitted & ballanced, alot cheaper than the Michellins I had on (priced at £122 ea) and not much more than cheapos at around £75 ea

Anyone got any views on the Falken ZE912 ???, it's the only Falkens my local garage can get hold of. Failing that it's gonna be the FATE (Continental) ones.

Best Regards,
Andy

Looks good! - think they're £67 each with free delivery!. What would a garage normally charge to fit 2 front tyres (+ balance, disposal, valve etc) ?

Andy

my local garage is 15 quid a corner mate for valves balance and disposal, try kwik-fit and if they quote stupid prices say a garage down the road will do it cheaper..... 9 out of 10 times they will match it ;) and 155.00 fitted is a fair price a would say ;)

I don't rate the Falken FK452s but then I'm comparing them to Dunlop Sport MAXX before and Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymetrics after...

Less grip, more noise, harder steering, crashier ride and the rubber seems in really bad condition and to be wearing very quickly after 6 months. But then they are £30ish cheaper each...

ahh i'm back to square one now lol!, think i might just stick with the Continental budget FATE, can get 2 fitted for £130 all in and all indications seem to show they're pretty good.

Hi Andy,

I had FATE fitted to the car when I bought my Leon, bought it from a family friend (car dealer), he put them on for me. Got 26K from the fronts, not bad in the dry but spin to hell in the wet.

Ah cheers for that Finn, i don't thrash the car in the wet, did they spin in wet conditions even when driving tamely, or was this when you were trying to beat your own smoke round a roundabout ??

Andy

Just had a pair of 225/45-R17 ZE912 assyms fitted for £145, got my local to price match Camskill's price (within a fiver).
They're on the rear and just about bedded in now, not noticed any real difference in performance having come from FK452's, not that I drive like a loon, but the fairly fast & twisty commute to & from work hasn't thrown up any handling surprises.
There's not much on the internet as they're pretty new (replaced the ZE512, which isn't very popular on here), but having read they're more of an all season tyre, quieter that the FK452 and should last longer I took a punt. Oh and being £10 a corner cheaper helped as well.

This is a good site for tyre reviews as it lays everything out nicely:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyresults/surveydisplay.jsp?type=MP

My advice is always to get the very best you can sensibly afford and ALWAYS replace at 3mm, having had a small child run out in front of me from between two cars I would never cut corners on either brakes or tyres and I know what happens because I've been through someones windscreen at 45mph. I still get cold sweats every time I see a Nova SR :D

Sounds good Nick, the cheapest i can get 2X ZE912's for is £156 fully fitted etc. But i suppose that's a fair price really. Well my mind has been swayed yet again, gonna go for these !!. I think for the extra £13 a tyre, they would be better than the FATEs anyway

Andy

Apologies I couldn't find one with some of the tyres you are looking at but it's a good site for knowing what the limtations of the rubber are and it is done by people who have used them. :D
