After stripping the head a few months ago it became obvious that someone had painted all the internal faces of the head!

I got the paint stripper out and after a few coats it all came off, I then hit it up with some carbon remover to clean up the combustion chambers and exhaust ports.. here is the finished product.

My initial plan was too then remove all the casting marks and the protruding valve guides in the exhaust ports and them give them a good polish. half way through the polishing I was warned its really not a good idea for turbocharged cars!! [:@]
Out came the dremmel too rough them all up again. Here is how it stands at the minute.

I still need too lap in the new valves, give it a damn good clean too remove all the swarf and then its ready too be built up with the supertech valves springs and ti retainers :)

You would be surprised the lengths some people go to in order to make a sale...

When we do cylinder head rebuilds here we aqua blast the entire casting after removing all the oil gallery plugs (if they are ball pressed in , we drill them out and tap them for an NPT plug).

It's the polishing part that isn't advised not the porting.
Something about the turbulence caused by the rough surface heats up the gasses further.
Hotter gasses are less dense and therefore can exit quicker.

I was under the impression you want the gasses to escape as fast as possible to get the turbo spooling. Temps won't mean **** as they are damn hot anyway.

Jnl polished the exhaust ports on my old small port as it improved the flow.

Exactly what I thought, the quicker they get out the quicker it can spool the turbine and the quicker it can make boost!?! JNL is polishing my largeport head based on this info.

lol at the surface heating up that much more by polishing, when the exhaust temps are knocking on the door of 1000 degress heat dissipation through surface temps are negligible surely?
