lol at the surface heating up that much more by polishing, when the exhaust temps are knocking on the door of 1000 degress heat dissipation through surface temps are negligible surely?

I think James was suggesting that a rough surface increases the temperatures rather than a smooth surface? IMHO a polished head will always flow more than a non polished head? And with temperatures up to 1000 degrees it's not going to matter if the surface changes the temp +/- 5% but get it out ASAP?

Issam media blasts his exhaust ports to roughen up the CNC'd finish on his heads.
He has tested rough vs polished and rough is superior.
I am only going by his advice, he has only ever helped me out and has no reason to lie..
His exact words were "DO NOT POLISH THE EXHAUST PORTS!!" lol

James you are thinking a PORTED head will always flow more than a NON PORTED head. In the real world you want the exhaust port to be somewhat rough (like sand paper rough , not jagged edge rough)

Here are some of our port work that we exclusively do in North America for Redline Speedworx (heads are sold direct to customers outside of USA).

1.8T Intake port:

2.0 FSI exhaust port after blasted with walnut shells. Notice the ridges from the CNC.

Our 1.8T CNC ported head is the highest flowing 1.8T on the market and with the #'s to prove it. Its on a few race cars and even going to be 2 KTM X-BOW's this coming month.

And for the record the only time you want mirror shine exhaust ports are on a Naturally aspirated or supercharged motor where exhaust gas velocity becomes a mute point.

Thanks for sticking up for me Sammy ;)
Anytime.
BTW before anyone decides to jump down my throat , my post was not meant to knock anyone here by any means. People have there methods of what works for them and we have ours ....
The only time I ever saw a mirror shine on an exhaust port was on an NA Seat Leon BTCC FSI motor. Skoda Octavia WRC (an engine developed for ultimate efficiency) had rough exhaust ports.
Food for thought gents.

I cant see how it makes any difference either. Especially if you then flow through a smooth tubualar mani or a cast log mani.

For that small amount of surface finish vs. velocity and temp i cant see it making any difference personally.

The exhaust port is the pinch point though, therefore this is the limiting factor of how effieciently the gasses can flow.
A decent large bore manifold (smooth or rough) isnt going to add and more resistance to the system.
The next pinch point in the system is the turbine housing itself, there not polished are they?

Tubular manifolds have ridges @ every single weld internally. The only way to ever get a perfectly smoothe manifold is with an investment cast.

James have you gone with an externally gated 2868?

Talking to Owen Developments at Autosport last weekend they can supply a "Motorsport Plus" 2868 HTA with metal bearing cage and a TIAL hotside with an external wastegate, claiming figures of 450+ on a .63 hotside

Mine is 0.86 internally gated T25 fitment.
I was looking into a full vband tial hotside (externally gated) but I just can't justify that right now.
I'd be interested how much they quoted you (drop me a pm)

Mine also has the uprated bearings, Forced Performance supply Owen Developments with all the parts and they get built in the UK.
Issam has told me to expect 450bhp from mine.. anything over 400 and ill be a happy chappy :)
