Interesting, OD seemed to think they'd struggle to flow more than 420 when internally gated - though we were talking about the 0.63 housing

Not that that isn't enough power for a little hot hatch mind you. 380-400 would suit me nicely

I was told the HTA Motorsport Plus with TIAL 0.63 hotside RRPs at ~£1400

I think everyone has there own opinions, like you say though Robbie 400 or 450 its still going too put a massive smile one my face.
I have heard they struggle too sustain flow higher up the rev range on the .63 housing (the garrett housing that is) I dont know how true this is as not enough info out there.
Alex has tested both 2868's in .6 and .8 guise and there was minimal difference in spool up times.
£1400 is a good price if that includes vat! snap it up and join the club! :D

What's the deal with these units then? Built by Forced Performance _and_ Owen Developments who source the bits from FP?

You struggle to find much info on them online

Yes thats correct. they both take a 2860rs replace the comp wheel with a 68HTA wheel, Machine the comp housing too suit & uprate the bearings.

GT2860rs = 35 lbs/min (264 g/s)
HTA GT2868r = 47 lbs/min (355 g/s)
GT2871r = 44 lbs/min (332 g/s)
GT3071r = 51lbs/min (385 g/s)

As you can see it sits bang in the middle of a 2871 & 3071 in regards to the amount of air it can move..

Alex's 2871 with the 0.86a/r made ~ 450bhp

The HTA can flow 3 more lbs/min so it looks promising.

Remebering it keeps the same spool up characteristics of the 2860rs..

Have a billet HTA71 compwheel put in it (like JamesL) and uprated bearings

Off the top of my head they are rated too 55lbs/min dont quote me on that though

SCN really does need a like button!
Theres not much difference in the pricing for the HTA's.. its very tempting to opt for something bigger, but as with all big turbo's at the sacrifice of spool.. to me the 2868 offers a good balance

All i want is something to help reduce spool which i think these wheels offer.

My understanding was the wheels themselves reduce spool noticibley..

they spool like the original unit, but flow like the next unit in the line.

E.g.

2868 is a modified 2860.. therefore spools like the original 2860 but flows like a 2871

In your case it will then be a hta 3071, so will still spool like a normal 3071 but flow like a 3076.

If you want to reduce spool you will need to swap for a smaller unit with a billet wheel.. you will then still have the same flow as the 3071, but the spool of the smaller unit.

Reading that back its a little confusing but im sure you'll understand what I mean Phil.

Haha! Im going to try a gasket first and see how it goes, Issam tells me he doesnt have a problem with the gaskets he supplies.

Garrett dont seem too know what a T25 looks like, the casting was terrible

Will be interesting to see how this new turbo performs. Has anyone used this type on the 1.8 20v t before?

Yeah, I am looking forward too seeing the results too.
There are a few in the UK but none that I have found on any forums.

Me and Danny are the only guys on here with them at the moment.

I had my first go at carbon skinning tonight, I think I have aged about 5 years in the process! what a fiasco.
After throwing a few hissy fits and ripping the carbon off several times here are the results.

this is just the first topcoat of resin. It needs flatting and then 2 or 3 more coats adding and then finally run through the grades of wet and dry and a polish.

Im rather please with it :)
