Big shame about the engine mate :(

He probably thought it would never be inspected, WRONG!

On a positive, parts are coming together nicely :)

I have all the proof I need Will.
I have an invoice listing JE pistons & rods and large race valves written in YOUR NAME.. I have then stripped the engine and there not there.

You have broken the one legal obligation when it come to selling second hand parts.. "items must be sold as described"

And there not.

Hmmmm this aint good now is it....

I brought a set of alloys off a well known member on here abour a year ago now to find out that 1 was that badly buckled i had the cops pull me over as they were worried about my safety & thought the wheel was held on with 1 bolt. Yeh i was P****D off

I thought they was a total steal at £40 which is why drove over 100milles to get them. Being buckled was NOT stated in the Ad.

Only because i weighed them in & lost out on a tenna was the reason i never went back down there on a MAD. If you ask me the member is pretty dumb beacause i was bound to find out.

We need less people like this on here trust me because 1 of these days someone is really going to get hurt.

Lol what a joke... it's clear Will is in the wrong, no point being an arse about it just refund half the amount which I'm sure is well under what you owe James and we're all sorted.

BTW I'm a true cyber hero :D

JE dont make rods.

And you bought it cheap.

Two things that ring alarm bells imo.

Forget it and move on like your doing mate, at least you know now whats in your engine now.

One thing i loved seeing when i took my oil pan off was the scat rods and JE pistons staring back at me.

Salt...wound..

I know I know, I am too trusting and as I say after seeing invoices I assumed it was all how it should be.

Onwards and upwards anyway!

just to chime in.

firstly been lurking and watching this thread for ages, and loving your work (and the deep pockets required!) car is really really nice!!

regarding the sale i used this bit of info the other day:

Buying goods from a private seller
If you buy goods from a private individual, for example, through an advert in a newspaper or shop window, or at a car boot sale, you have very few legal rights. However, if the seller offers a description of the goods, they must match the description given. If your goods don't match the description given, you may be entitled to compensation. You may also be entitled to compensation if you have bought an unroadworthy car from a private seller, which has caused injury to someone. However, it may be especially difficult to get compensation from a private seller.

If you have been sold an unroadworthy car, you should complain to Consumer Direct – see under the heading Further help.

Sometimes, people who sell goods as part of their business pretend to be a private seller in order to avoid their legal responsibilities towards their customers. This is a criminal offence. If you suspect that the person you have bought goods from is not really a private seller, you should complain to Consumer Direct – see under the heading Further help.

Your local Citizens Advice Bureau can give you more advice about making a claim against a private seller. To search for details of your nearest CAB, including those that can give advice by e-mail, click on nearest CAB.

Now, as you have a description and and invoice... this guy is a private seller, therefore you are entitled to compensation. not sure you will get the full price back... but some of it....

such a shame people are dishonest, but thats why the for sale sections arent on here anymore.

if you want me to remove the stuff above mate, let me know :)

Thanks Klone.
He has broken the one and only law regarding private sales.
I am not after a full refund, at the very least I want to be compensated for all the gaskets, seals and bolts I will have to replace due to stripping the engine.
But as he is being a complete ass I will have to look deeper into the legal side of things.

I have asked for a 50% refund which I think is very fair as the engine doesnt have 50% of what was advertized.. forgetting all the time effort and money I have put in to get it up to scratch.

correct on that one, and if it goes to court he will 100% lose as you have a receipt for goods that werent present when investigated.

50% is very reasonable, i'd be looking to return the block and have all my money back, plus money for my time and effort!
