Happened on my 1.6 many years ago. Was very cold like with you and it kept sitting on the floor. Never did it again after that cold morning though.

Maybe caused by moisture in the fluid then?
Drove the car thismorning (at 7.30 so a little warmer) and it was fine.
Keeping my fingers crossed.

Evening all.
Thought id drop a question on this thread rather than starting a new one for a simple question.

Looking at buying a pedal 2nd hand that i can modify/strengthen.
My pedals have the holed ally plates fitted.
Anyone know if i can remove it and fit it to a non R pedal?

Cheers all
Rich

I took the plunge.
Got a black plastic/rubber pedal.
If i cant fit my ally pedal to it, I'll just flip it.
Have you got any pix of the damaged pedal?
Will give me an idea where to weld it.
Cheers

Well my pedal turned up. So will look to see if it matches the one on the car.
Was it just the back of the box that broke away and the white plastic bush came through?
Need to know where to weld.
Cheers

Yeah thats what happened, exactly the same as in the guide. Its the tack welds that break on the box section

No they literally just bust apart quite dramatically. once the section breaks theres nothing to stop it from going against the footwell.
Another clutch pedal bites the dust. Am sat at an M4 junction waiting for the AA. Literally no warning!!

He’d get an automatic.🙂
I pulled the broken pedal from the car. Ordered new bits. Can’t wait to fit them.
Mine broke last year. Seems the welds are reaching the end of their lives.

Getting that big spring in is a *******! I used 2 cable ties to keep mine compressed, then cut and removed them when it was in place

First attempt at fitting the new pedal and I’m failing. There doesn’t seem to be enough clearance to locate the pedal recess with the white plastic bit and the push rod. Am I supposed to brute force push in the push rod to get enough clearance?? That seems kinda difficult given the shape and location of it all!?!

Yeah it's an absolute pig of a job. I removed the drivers seat to make access somewhat easier. Then it's a case of trying to line everything up which does take a certain amount of brute force. I cable tied the spring in the compressed position to make it easier, still difficult though

Sorry to hear this.
The only time, in my ownership, I've broken down with the boy is due to the clutch pedal going.
I had the luck of the gods on me that day though...just dropped my daughter off at school (who had an exam that morning), literally pulled out of the school, passing the multitude of school coaches & then ping. I knew where a field entrance was (next to the school entrance) & coasted enough to get the car out of the way. It was about as lucky as you could get timing wise.
I got the RAC out, who clipped the pedal in place enough for me to drive to the garage. If I'm honest, I was so glad the garage did it, had it back the next morning & had a courtesy car.
Best of luck 👍
P.s...my son scraped my rear bumper yesterday, as he pulled in too fast & too wide 😔
