I have since drilled the same in the other two sides, but this was after my first spree with a drill. You can make the holes bigger obviously...

does this make a diffrance at all i am guessing it sounds louder only i just bought a new air box because i cut my old one up and it cost me 95 pound

my theory:

when travelling:
air is pushed into the air box via pressure from the front air feed, the holes allow some air to escape, circulating more air and therefore cooler. the faster your travelling the greater the air flow into the airbox.

Now by my thinking, it will act as a Venturi as per Vernulis thorium (spelling) using the high pressure air coming in through the intake to suck air through the cheese holes to a unknown effect, now i could just be well of the mark and trying to overcomplicate things.

I went to McDonalds the other day, and on the way home decided to test my 0 - 60 against the number 36 bus ... and lost  (joke)

.G.

Your racing busses:lol: Seriously mate get a life, the Number 36 thats the new low floor super green low emissions bus. So due to it having the Newer more efficient engine and the numatic suspension you dont stand a chance!!! PMSL

any photos guys??

Get a PD160 come round and ill get my drill out lol

Sadly no, not racing buses just a reminder of how the slow the really 1.2 is!

I did something similar to my Corsa 1.2 for a bit of induction noise LOL.

Not sure if I'd do it on a "proper" engine though...

I have a question

To save me some investigation, maybe someone already knows the answer. when you have an open cone air filter or in my case a drilled air box. Why does it sound so boomy on fast idol when the engine is cold in the morning for 30 secs or so.

There is defo something that seems to be pumping or doing something with the induction to make this boomy sound that I don't much like.

The extra induction sound one warmed up sounds lush and I can hear the turbo wosh and even a little "tish" if you listen hard enough.

What is the nasty boomy noise when cold though ?

Does it suck in more air and squirt in more fuel to make it run better to start with? I think the ECU advances the ignition a little bit (but I HAVE NO IDEA what this actually does... sorry!)

Do you do this ABOVE the air cleaner element? I assume so or the air will not be filtered. I've got my airbox off at the moment to fit my green panel and maya s well do this at same time. 20mm holes are favourite yes?

I like the sound of mine, if only it didn't make that stupid whining sound as well! [:@]

.G.[/QUOTE]

have you ever thought of trying a performance panel filter, gives it a mega roar!

the standard car sounds good after about 3500RPM, the Green cotton filter just emphasises this bit..

 The bottom half. When you take the top off and pull the old filter out.... its the bottom bit you drill. Don't do the top bit as the air being sucked in won't be filtered and all sorts of crap would be sucked in to the engine!!!

i want to do this drilling idea sounds great!
what do i need to do etc? and where is best to do it?

It's probably the seconday air pump that you can hear. It sucks in air from the air box (or not if you have a cone filter ;)) and pumps it out behind the exhaust valves to make a very lean mix. This increase exhaust temps and get the lamda probes and cat up to temperature quickly so they properly.

I guess if you have a drilled air box, it's sucking this air through the holes and if you have a cone filter, the sound isn't being muffled by the air box.

My air box isn't drilled, I just removed the trumpet. I think it would be too loud along with the Milltek and Forge TIP!
