OK

Since last time, me and my dad have purchased a proper VAG-COM cable from Ross Tech.

Plugged it in and read all the necessary data, and sure enough it came straight out with the error.

(BTW, the light has been intermittent, coming off and on all the time over the past 2/3 weeks... However the car has been fine)

Here is the data...

1 Fault Found:
19558 - Motor for Intake Manifold Flap (V157): No Signal
P3102 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
Readiness: 0 1 0 0 0

I've done some quick googling and the best I could find was a dutch website, and my dutch is terrible (i.e. I couldnt read a word)

Any ideas chaps?

Cheers

Hmm I did try that, and i could make some sense of it - it was talking about the flap causing problems with air intake, and side effects of this are "car not going smoothly at 120kmh" and "lower consumption"

ah right mate, they are ok translations but know what u r getting at not good enough for something this specific

Ah well, i've booked it in with the dealer, but at least i'll know what it is if they try and b/s me.

Interesting conversation I had with them actually - apparently it's a "common fault" on car's at this time of year. Something about moisture on the Lambda probe? I've owned 4 cars now, and never had this before... So then I laid it down a bit thicker, mentioned my problems with consumption etc, and there we go.

Taking it in Lunchtime next week, hopefully have their verdict on it :D

my engine light comes and goes really f00king annoying mine says recirculating valve so i changed my baileys dumpvalve for a recirculating forge and reset the engine management ligh but it still came back!!

does it say secondary air pump rash?
gore could this be egr related as i know the tdi's dont have throttle bodies so can be that and egr is only other flap type thing i know of. also intermittant means it could have happened for split second once so its not permanantly throwing the fault up. had few intermitant faults on my car, cleared then and havent come back

no it just says on my diagnostics kit at work (snap on) recirculating valve fault will reset it again tomorrow and see what happens

@gaz = Well judging by what I could find out from the fault codes, it does mention the motor for the flap failing, this impedes airflow (somewhere) and this can impact consumption.

My car is returning 45mpg according to the in-dash computer

It's returning more like 40mpg when I calculate it myself (I compare the number of miles driven to the cost of the fill up with cost per litre- got it on a mahoosive spreadsheet if ya want it)

that is part of the secondary air system check your pipes that you have changed doing the n249 bypass as cupra j put two the wrong way around and was getting this fault you still got the old dump valv in place but disconnected the vac line to it? get a pic up of how you have installed the forge valve

gore could be the vac box on your drives side strut failing to open egr as this is what controls it but that is a much as i know about the egr system
