Hi I have recently fitted new springs and now that I have put all together the wipers don't seem to be right they are no longer going back to the off position. Is there something I'm missing or need to do. Can anyone assist?
Can you explain what you mean by "springs". Do you mean the ones on the arms that give the pressure onto the screen. If you have taken the arms off to do this maybe you have not repositioned them back correctly on the drive splines.
I needed to fit new coil springs and had to remover the wiper arms to do the job. I have put all back together and fitted the wiper arms the only way they seem to go. I have even compared them to another car that hasn't had them removed. They just won't seat back in the park position off the windscreen like they did before I removed them.
I think you have replaced them in slightly the wrong position. They are located on very fine splines so it is very easy to replace them in the wrong place, being one spline off on either or both arms will result in a big difference at the outer end of the arm.. When they operate are they very close together when they sweep and when they get to the edge of the screen do they touch the edge. I would remove them and reset them so that when they park they are at their lowest.
Yeh they are not parking to the edge of the screen like they did before I removed them to do the springs. So should I remove them in the service position which is them being down at the bottom of the screen. I do see what you mean by a very fine spline
I think you may have re set them in slightly the wrong position. Since refitting the arms do they either seem to be very close together when they cross each other on the sweep or do they go over to the edge of the screen further than before. Because the locating splines are very fine it is quite easy to replace them one or two splines different and because of the length of the arms a small difference on the spline can be a big difference at the outer end of the arm. I would remove the wiper arms again - turn the wipers on and off to reset them at their parking position and then replace the arms. Then try them with the screen wet to reduce the friction on the wipers - if you have replaced the springs you will have increased the pressure between the blades and the screen. It may take a couple of goes to get it correct.
No no its fine. Sorry I don't mean the springs in the wiper arms I mean the child springs. The wiper arms were as the were. I'll give what you said a go and see how I get on.
Thanks
Again big thanks! Indeed same thing here : fuse 33. I would never had looked there...
I still have not worked out why the the water pump is still not working but at least I have the wipers back! It is still 1 degree out there so I hope that it is just frozen.
Both issue wipers and frozen pump happened at same time after a cold night and not having enough antifreeze screen wash.
