hey guys
car is a 05 ibiza tdi fr pd130
basically, after a search i thought it was the brake light switch (common problem on mk4 ibizas) which was causing the flashing glow plug light, but after i checked the brake lights (yes one was out but replaced that!) it was still flashing...driven it hard and normal and slow to and from work today and still no change (in performance or flashing light). Ive also remapped my car (i have a box which does it) back to standard and driven about for a while and then mapped it back to the power one and stil no avail!

PLEASE HELP!! out of ideas!
thanks in advance!

you sure it's not a sticky switch? check your glow plugs...not much else i would think triggers it

sounds silly but you have not put LED bulbs in your stop and tail have you?? that throws up all sorts of lights!

pretty sure cos the brake lights do work...ill check again tonight when i can see the reflection..see if the distance changes or soemthing for them to come on!

also is it easy to change the glow plugs? (im a student and can just about afford to run my baby let alone pay some-one to do work on it!)

changin glow plugs is simlar to changing spark plugs, easy but if you get it wrong its going to cost mega money to correct

ok...took it to a local garage that i trust - serviced my dads cars for last 20 years + and they said that they couldnt find any problems after running a diagnostic check!
does anyone else know what are the other likely problems could be before i pay with my left nut to seat to find it?

Hi mate, am having a simlar problem with my Ibiza. The brake light switch serves two purposes. 1 is the obvious brake lights, the other is to tell the ECU that you are braking. If you put your brakes on whil accelerating the ecu will cut the power, dont know if you ever tried this before. My Ibiza has stopped doing this and I have a flashing coil. I would change the switch as Im going to do, pretty sure it will solve your problem.

hi there. i also had same problem ... blicking glow plug light, so ive replaced it with a seat original part costing £9. turns out i did.t realy have to bother as its only an ejustment problem! its easy to check before u all go out and buy one....heres how.

1st make sure all brake lights do work and that they arnt leds (led lights corropt current this sending a fault to ecu)
now iff still has light flashing get 1 scruw driver and some long nose pliers. now look at top of brake peddel in foot well and you'll see the switch!
now turn ignition off and then back on (engine not running) now put scruw driver in between switch stalk and the peddel and push it to top (up wards )
now the light should have stop't flashing. if not its an glow plug problem and youll have to get a vag reader for code.

now if it did stop flashing and depending on type u have 2 options?

1 is push the brake peddel down hard(get someone to press and hold down with foot) and now pull the stalk back out till it stops, not too hard tho.
now let peddel back up slowly and bingo all fixt (well for now as depends on how worn it is) option 2, is replace it. not too hard so dont be scared. its pritty simple.
first remove the 4 screws at the bottom of dash. they are on the front of the lower pannel (the peddels go through it and its under the dash face)
now pull it off towards u by pulling clutch side down and then out. now un plug the wire plug then rotate the brake switch anti clock wise then out towards u...bingo.
now replace it with the new one, (make sure that the brake switch is fitted with the 4 terminalls at the top as incorrect fitment will brake the center spike......

now just re place the pannels etc. now the glow plug light will still be flashing but dont worrie ..... u need to turn ignition back on and use scruw driver to push pin back to top to reset it. thats it all done. (new type switch is electronic so self adjusting) hope that all helps...good luck...pete

ive just lived with it til now
i went away on holiday last week and left car with my rents, they took it out, saw the light and took it to a seat garage to fix.....
and £89 later the brake switch was replaced, so that was a nice present to come back to!

The glow plug (coil) light started flashing on my dash today, and the traction control light is on steady. My left brake light has been out for a few weeks now (tut tut i know), would this have triggered it? Bit strange that it's only affecting it now. And would that have any bearing on the traction control light?

Cheers.

I had the same problem, got a bit scared at first.

All it wanted was 2 new bulbs, no switch needed.

Surprised as it was odd both bulbs went at same time.

Thanks guys for advice!
