I believe they run tethered wheels in F2 also, (see Dr Palmers statement).

However wheel tethering isn't an absolute solution, even in F1 if the impacts are violent enough even a tether won't prevent a wheel from being ripped off. I've seen at least one incident in F1 this season where a crash led to a wheel coming off its tether.

Just read Jonathan Palmer's statement and it almost brought me to tears. A beautiful tribute to a true racer who was killed in a freak accident doing what he loved the most. Our thoughts go out to Henry's family and friends.
 
We all know life can be cruel and we read of young victims of tragedies every day, whether through accident, war or illness.
you have to tip your hat to the fact the guy met his end,flat out doing what he loved.just far too short.
