Hi Guys,

Well i dont have a mk3 anymore but have a mk4 54 plate FR TDI in Platinum grey. Ive had it 3 monthsish now and have resisted this long, i have kept telling myself im going to keep her standard but i dont think im going to last much longer. Ive had a paintless dent guy go all round her and had the front and rear bumpers resprayed, shes looking mint now so all ready for the next lot.

I want a clean subtle look with proberly only changing the wheels and suspension so i need to get it right. I like the low look, all my previous cars have been super low so this one is going to be aswell. Coilovers will be on the list but im super confused as to what size wheel to go for.

This time im going to go for the wide small wheel look, with proberly 8s on the front and 9s on the rear, maybe even 8s allround. Ive searched but not alot has come up to help me whichh to go for 16 or 17s?. Im thinking 16s but i cant find any pics or info from where someone else has done so, everyone has gone 17s that ive found.

Also for the dervs out there do you think im going to be running a huge risk with how low my sump is going to be on 16s and low.

Thanks

Russ

p.s ignore the sig, ive not taken pics of the new one yet.

Hello russ!

Finally giving in!! :)

You can try my wheels on if you like, 17's are best way to go, i'm scraping my sump cover pretty much everywhere but it looks great, 16's will most likely see your sump dented especially with the roads round here...

Will have to meet up sometime have a chat!

i think 17's will be better as 16's wouldn't fill the arches enough but think it is a personal thing lol as rash said cupra, deepdish or some nice bbs's but i would keep the standard wheels and get a custom re-map lol how you getting on with derv?? i love the torque but i hate not being able to rev the hell out of the engine and i'm thinking of big turbo upgrade but veryime i see rash's bhp and torque figures i think i should get a petrol and have a big turbo lol dam you rash!!!

Thanks guys for the ideas, just got back on here.

Well ill definately be getting coilovers first, see how low and useable it is on the standard 16s to make my mind up if ill go 16s or 17s. I want a good dish on them and they are going to be at least 8inch wide all round with the posibilty of 9 inch on the rear. Though im undecided on the 9 inch wide on the rear as i do alot of miles and running a very streched tyre on the sort of miles i do may not be such a good idea.

Ad_Lav, cheers for the offer i may well take you up on that once the coils are on, that worrys me you say your sump hits on 17s , was starting to like the idea of low on 16s. Do you have any problems with the under body hitting? on my mk3 it was the front bumper and skirts that i regularly hit not the engine:doh:

Im thinking a Polished silver finish to compltment platnimum grey, i cant go chrome lips or anything as my car spends a good amount of time by the beach and the salt would destroy them.

I would post some pics of the wheels i like but dubmeisters site is down [:@] Compomotive TH momos are looking good.

Just the cover hits :)

The sills and under body bits catch occasionally on dodgy car parks humps, nothing serious, just scraping, rubs a bit on the wheels, but not anymore, cut them out.

The splitter catches most places so if you were on 16's you would catch most things, kerbs, RVP car park??
