Yeah, thats the one, What is its purpose there then? The CCV is that carbon canister?? not too sure on this one!

Its purpose is to vent the pressure in the crank casing. But as its oily air then its not enviornmentally safe to vent to the outside, and a catch tank needs to be emptied now and again, so instead they have it venting back into the intake. This oily air combines with the sooty air from the EGR and hence leads to clogging of the intake.

CCV is not carbon canister, they are only on petrol cars, CCV is Crank Case Ventilation.

Thank you, didnt know what CCV was, just a wild guess! May look into a Catch tank, would gladdy wait for other mods until i have this out of the way! Would they void warranty for this do you think, if done properly as it can only do good for the engine!

I would say yes it would invalidate the warranty. most fettling with the engine does, it depends on the dealer in the end though. Theres loads of info about the CCV and solutions like the old navy filter on tdiclub.com have a search over there.

To add to what has been said: excess oil accumulating in or near the EGR can come from the crankcase vent (CCV) or leaking past the turbo seal. A little oil there is normal, but I think the amount shown in post #1 is excessive.

As long as there isn't much soot, this oil isn't going to cause gunk to clog up the EGR and intake.

And as far as I know, the method for reducing the EGR cycle in post #17 doesn't work on the PD engine.

Look for a lot of excessive oil in the intercooler, too.

There may be a cause for worry then? Havnt ventured as far as the intercoller yet to check. Will check egr and pipe again soon and see how it is now.

Like I said, a little oil coating the inside of the EGR and the tube down to the intercooler is completely normal. But lots of oil indicates either a CCV problem or a turbo seal problem. It's impossible for me to diagnose this from 8k miles away, or even to confirm that you have a problem. But I can't rule it out, either.

That would be a bit difficult to diagnose from that distance! But from experience it seems like a little more ol than normal! Car doesnt seem to be using much oil at all!!

If you dont have an isssue with poor performance or oil consumption I would say there is nothing to worry about. In my oppinion there is not an excessive amount of oil in there anyway and even if you could argue there is, it could be down to lots of stop start driving.

Hi all. Just an update on this. I believe the oil in the pipes to be worse now. Using oil too, noticable, checking every week and it does move, mabe 8th of the marker on the dip stick. Also MPG is shocking. worked out for most tanks for a while, and getting around 35mpg all the time. Spend around 10 mins in the morn and evening in city traffic then rest is on A/B roads at 60 and motorways trying to stick to 70mph. Have some pics of the pipes and egr this time and still got an amount of oil.
