Good luck finding a box which can reliably cope Ben....
Diff only helps to strengthen the diff pin failure mode... it does'nt effect the actually gears themselves stregth wise..
All down to use... Use it on track regularly and you will more than likely consume transmission components.
Did I mention quaife SUK!
Yeah apparently the standard diff is the weakest part. Sort that and the next weakest part is good for 320LB FT, but like you say, if you treat it bad then it will fail.
AFAIK the gearbox is the only as yet unsolved
problem on the Ibizas, ie. no-one has found a good solution to the weak gearbox
problem on an
Ibiza that will be used as a daily driver.
Jabba say that the Quaife gearkit is good for over 400LB FT, but wasn't this what the Golf had (Different gearbox though) when you first got it, and you said it was horrible?
Al at Autotechniks says that he is confident that he could fit the Quaife gear kit and still retain a much nicer feel than you had on the Golf, but even if this is true it doesn't solve the high speed synchro
problem.
Dog box/Race boxes are a no no for me and most other people I guess?
02M would be nice, but CAN it be done (Within reason)? Also, adds a bit of weight.
Also, as you say.... Quaife are a 'bit' slow ATM, so the gearkits may not even be an option.
I don't know much about other gearbox companies, such as Gemini etc. Do they do anything that might be worth looking at?
Bill, I see that you are having problems with your box? Do you think its just a gremlin that can be fixed, or do you think the box simply isn't adequate for your power (Any idea what its rated at?)? I hope it can be sorted, and cheaply.
Cheers
Ben
